You take the beating heart from a living small beast and trade it with the heart of deceased humanoid of medium size or smaller. The wound from this exchange heals instantly. While the beast maintains physical contact with the humanoid creature it functions as if it were alive, complete with its personality and knowledge before death. If the beast is no longer in physical contact with the humanoid, the humanoid resumes being a corpse. You maintain a telepathic bond with the beast, able to speak telepathically through it and provide guidance to the humanoids actions which it justifies however it can. When the spell ends, both creatures die.

Any spell or spell-like ability capable of detecting undead will recognize the humanoid as undead. Also, A creature can make a medicine check against your spell save DC to determine that the humanoid is already dead.

You can end the spell early by using an action to dismiss it. A dispel magic will also end the spell early.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th or 7th level, the duration is 1 week. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher the duration is 1 year.
