You create a large sphere of fire that floats above you. As a bonus action you may launch the sphere to a point you choose within range where it explodes into a raging field of flames. Each creature within a 15-ft-radius sphere of the centered point must make a Dexterity saving throw. They take 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, and none on a successful save.
Fire covers the radius of the explosion for the full duration of this spell, dealing 1d6 fire damage to those that move into or start their turn within its area of effect. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried. Small fortifications as in boxes, crates and similar items are destroyed by the blast. Ice and water within the explosion are instantly evaporated.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, you create one additional sphere per two spell slots above 5th level. If multiple Chaos Flames overlap, creatures must only make a single save to avoid the damage.
