This spell creates a brilliant flash of white light in a line, 10 feet wide and 240 feet long, and effects every creature caught within this line. A creature hit with this spell must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or take 175 (30d8 + 40) Force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. When a target is left with 0 hit points, after being hit with balefire, its thread in the Pattern is destroyed.

The destruction of the target translates to both its existences, and actions taken up to a certain point, being retroactively erased. The stronger the balefire, the further back in time the object in question will be burned from the Pattern. When a creature is destroyed by this spell, roll a d6 and the result is the number of rounds back the erasure affects. Any actions, bonus actions, or reactions the creature had taken up to the point of their annihilation are reversed as if they never happened. Damage the target dealt, allies healed, or creatures killed are all reversed.

This can have serious consequences on the Pattern; use of extremely powerful blasts to destroy a great number of lives at once has been known to produce an effect referred to as a "balescream" the sound of the Pattern itself groaning under the strain of rearranging itself around a large gap, this effect is wholly up to DM interpretation.

Balefire is a weapon of the One Power usable by both male and female casters. Its widespread use during the Shadow Wars began to cause the Pattern to unravel, and it was subsequently banned from use by all wielders of the One Power.
