Posted Mar 2, 2021I love this spell, but I have a few questions.
1. "You imbue a plant you can see" means that the plant already exists in the environment. "When the spell ends, the conjured plant wilts away." Conjured? That means I summoned the plant regardless of local flora. So does this spell create a plant or does it merely awaken a plant and give it orders?
2. You have a fragment sentence in your description. "A creature grappled by the plant." Not a critique of the spell, but just trying to help your spell sound more professional.
3. The spell only lasts five rounds, so 30 seconds in DnD time, yet the purpose of the spell (at least in the name) is to surprise the enemy with an ambush. Should it last an hour or so? Giving time to set up an ambush? Especially if I can have multiple Am-bushes at a time.
4. Speaking of which, given DnD 5e rules, when you cast a second spell with concentration, the first one ends. How your spell is written currently ("a plant you can see"), I can only affect one plant at a time when I cast this spell. How would I affect three plants? Does the base level of this spell let me create 3 Am-bushes? Or do I need to cast the spell at a higher level to create more Am-bushes? Can I create more bushes at higher levels?
5. I understand druid and wizard, but why not have the spell be available to rangers? Or possibly some bards? They deal in nature magic or at least the natural creative forces in the world. I feel it would make sense.
That's my two cents. I love the idea! I just would like some clarification.
