You create, in your hand, a long, vine-like whip covered in thorns that lasts for 1 minute or until dispelled.  Any creature who can cast this spell has proficiency with the whip.  The whip adds 10-feet to your reach when you attack with it, as well as when determining your reach for opportunity attacks with it.  When making an attack use your spellcasting ability modifier for the attack and damage rolls. When you make a melee attack with the whip, if the attack hits, the creature takes (1d8 + spellcasting ability modifier) piercing damage, and if the creature is Large or smaller, as a bonus action you may choose one of the following:

* You pull the creature up to 10 feet closer to you.

* Your whip wraps itself around a portion of the creature, the creature is now restrained for 1 round.  

*You may rend the thorns of your whip out of the target dealing an additional 1d6 slashing damage.  

The spell's damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).
