A protective elemental shield surrounds you, manifesting as a shimmering glow that covers you and your gear, and giving you +1 bonus to your AC. When you cast this spell you gain temporary hit points equal to your level. If a creature hits you with a melee attack and you have no temporary hit points granted by this spell, you gain temporary hit points equal to your spellcasting modifier after taking damage.
At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell using a 4th level spell slot you choose an element (acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison) and you deal 3d6 damage (which ignores resistance/immunity) of that type to any creature that hits you with a melee attack while you have temporary hit points that were granted from this spell. If you cast this spell using a 6th level spell slot you gain an additional +1 bonus to your AC and have resistance to your chosen element type for the duration. If you cast this spell using a 8th level slot you are now immune to your chosen element type and you deal 6d6 damage (which ignores resistance/immunity) of the chosen element type to any creature that hits you with a melee attack while you have temporary hit points.
When this spell ends you gain 1 point of exhaustion. If this spell is blocked or removed by arcane means, such as with dispel magic or counterspell, you are also stunned until the end of your next turn.
