You gain the ability to choke the breath from a creature with a thought and gesture. When you cast the spell, and as your action each round for the duration, you can exert your will on one creature or object that you can see within range, causing the appropriate effect below. You can affect the same target round after round, or choose a new one at any time. If you switch targets, the prior target is no longer affected by the spell.
Choose one person or creature to lift off the ground, as if an invisible hand grasps them by the throat and is choking the life from them.
The target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On success, the target takes half damage and the spell effect ends. If the target fails the saving throw, they take 2d6 points of Bludgeoning damage, and can only take a single bonus action on their next turn.
On subsequent rounds, you can use your action to deal 2d6 additional crushing damage. The target may make an additional Constitution saving throw each round to escape your grip. On failure the target is again limited to a single bonus action on their next turn. The spell ends if you use your action to do anything else. The spell also ends if the target is ever outside the spell's range or if it has total cover from you.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, add an additional d4 to the initial damage, and the damage on each subsequent round that the asphyxiating grip continues for each spell slot above 1st.
