You throw the weapon you are holding in your hand (it cannot be a weapon with the reach property). You can choose when you cast this to either cast it in a 60 foot long, 5 foot wide line from yourself, or you may throw it in a 20 foot radius circle centered on yourself (you can choose to make the radius smaller if you wish). Any creatures within 5 feet of the line or the edge of the circle must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save. They take 5d6 of the appropriate damage type and are Paralyzed for 1 round on a failed save, and take half as much and are knocked Prone instead of Paralyzed on a success. The damage of this spell is considered magical for the purposes of resistances to non-magical damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage of this spell increases by 1d6 and the range of the line/radius of the circle increases by 10 feet for each spell slot above 3rd.
