You can pick up an object and learn what kind of object it is. You can appraise tiny, small creatures and medium nonmagical objects. At higher levels you can learn what it does, if it does damage you can learn how much damage it does, You can appraise bigger monster and magical objects, learn a creatures abilities, hp and ac, you can appraise objects that are of higher rarity
