Must make an attack to cast the spell, otherwise it emmediately fails.
You coat your weapon/ammunition in an oil of fiery burning. On a successful attack, you replace your weapon's damage with fire damage and deal an additional 2d8 damage.

Posted Mar 1, 2021This spell sounds a lot like smite spells for a paladin, and is pretty interesting! But having the spell take an action to cast could cause some arguments at a game table. If you use your action to cast it, you cannot attack on your turn. But if attacking is a part of the spell, then it becomes like divine smite, where I would only cast the spell if it hit my target. I suggest making the spell a bonus action, since you're prepping your weapon to do extra damage, then there is no conflict on you slamming your enemy with your powered-up weapon. In this instance, I would include whether this spell lasts only for the first attack, or all attacks made this turn, or if it is like "Shillelagh" where you can do keep your weapon buffed for a full minute. Maybe think about the spell doing more fire damage if you cast it at a higher level! Also, you don't have listed what classes can use this spell. An interesting concept< just needs a little tweaking in my opinion.
