Posted Mar 1, 2021I really like this spell! But it seems a bit powerful for a cantrip. Most cantrips that require a saving throw do damage on fail and then that's it. This deals 1d8 damage for several rounds. Given it's a cantrip, this could easily kill the target outright at some first-level encounters, especially depending on when the damage is applied each round. Is it at the start or end of the target's turn? Is it at the start of your turn that the damage is applied? And could you target the same creature multiple times with this? It's a cantrip that is a bonus action. Could you not use both bonus action and action to cast the cantrip twice, not lose any spell slots, and deal 2d8 acid damage for three rounds at level 1? Seems very powerful to me. I would suggest upping the spell level to be a first or second level spell, make the damage increase based on what level slot you use to cast it, and tighten up the wording on whether you can target the same creature every round to stack the damage and when the creature takes damage (their turn, your turn, start/end of turn, etc.). Otherwise, fun spell!
