The caster´s hands cause amber to begin freezing over the targets body, forcing them into conscious stasis. The caster identifies a target who must make a STR saving throw versus the caster´s DC. On a fail they are rendered unconscious as the caster becomes encased in amber. While in the amber the target does not need to eat, drink, sleep, breath, or use the facilities. The amber requires 100 damage before the amber is broken.

Posted Mar 2, 2021Really neat spell! I have a few questions:
"On a fail, they are rendered unconscious as the CASTER becomes encased in amber" (emphasis added). Does that mean if the target succeeds on their saving throw, the caster falls victim to their own spell? Because for a 9th level spell, there should be little backfire to the caster. Also, depends on who they are, because if "they" is the target, then it conflicts with the earlier description of the spell. "On a fail (the target) is rendered unconscious" versus "(the spell forces) them into conscious stasis". Is the victim unconscious or conscious when the spell takes effect?
Besides that, my only other question is: the amber requires 100 damage to be broken, so does the inhabitant take half the damage dealt to the amber, like a rug of strangling? Or is the victim protected from all damage dealt to the amber? Because if the person trapped takes no damage, I can see some cool hijinks like jumping off a cliff, encasing yourself in amber, and negating the majority of the fall damage.
Really cool spell!

Posted Mar 3, 2021Sorry about the loose wording. To answer your first question, no the target is targeted (hmm, I´m not sure if that was correct grammar,) by the spell. Second question, the target remains conscious, but suffers all the effects of the unconscious condition. Third question, I think that is up to the DM´s discretion because if I say no because amber is pretty much rock, then this would be extremely OP. If I were to say yes then as well as losing at least 5 turns, the target is most likely killed as well. Sorry, again, about all the miscommunication.
