Choose up to six creatures in a 30-foot-radius sphere centered around yourself. You temporarily gain hit points equal to the sum of each creature's maximum hit points. Any damage that would normally be taken by each creature, you take instead. When the duration ends, any temporary hit points that are left are lost and you return to your hit points just before you cast the spell. If you take more damage than the temporary hit points you gained at the casting of the spell, the damage is applied to your remaining hit points and normal rules apply.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the duration increases by one round for each slot level above 5th.

The description is a bit unclear. I take it to mean, if the caster takes damage, the absorbed HP are spent first, rather than (as implied) any damage taken by the creature(s) from which HP are taken is taken by the caster, instead.
I think you meant gain temporary hit points when you said "temporarily gain hit points". They sound similar, but would work very differently.

How is this different than Warding Bond and just making this more like Heroism, but for Clerics? You're just giving them temp HP and then saying "I take whatever other damage they would take past that for X number of rounds". Kind of too strong. Plus it's the creature's MAX HP. Which means that now the creature has to deal its max HP in one round just to take out the temp HP. That's nuts. Even against a Tarrasque or other high CR creature, that's just too good.
