Upon casting this spell, you take 2d6 necrotic damage. This damage cannot be reduced or prevented in any way. Immediately after casting this spell, you can force a creature that you can see within 30 feet to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, that creature takes 6d8 fire damage. On a successful save, they take half that damage. If the enemy failed the initial save, you can use your action on subsequent turns to cause that damage again without expending a spell slot or taking this spell's initial necrotic damage. Creatures without blood (such as golems) and creatures who are made of fire (such as a fire elemental) automatically succeed on this saving throw.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the necrotic damage you take increases by 2d6 for each level higher than 5th. Additionally, the fire damage the creature takes increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th.
