You target a flame or area of flame that you can see within range and that fits within a 20-foot cube. The flame becomes cold fire, turning blue and producing frost or snow rather than smoke. If you target an area of flame created by a spell, the flame is unaffected if the level of the spell is greater than the level of the spell slot you used to cast this spell. Alternatively, you can light a candle, a torch, or a small campfire with cold fire.

When you cast the spell, choose whether the flame becomes cool or freezing. If you choose cool, the flame deals no damage. If you choose freezing, the flame deals cold damage instead of fire damage. A freezing flame ignites water, freezing it and spreading freezing flames across the water at a rate of 5 feet per turn. Water interacts with freezing flame the same way oil interacts with fire.

Any cold fire created by this spell becomes normal fire when the spell ends. Cold fire can also be quenched by smothering it.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the spell lasts until dispelled. Additional flames spread from the original casting of the spell disappear after 1 hour.
