By sacrificing an animal during a Blood Harvest ritual, then spreading the blood across an area, a spellcaster can cause fields and orchards to yield crops. For every spell level used, an area equal to 50ft x 50ft of land that can grow grains, vegetables, or fruit trees, produce their maximum bounty 24 hours later. A particular field or orchard can only be forced this way once every 4 months. Many Druids conduct this ritual in midwinter to supplement food stocks, killing livestock that was to be eaten anyway.
This can be particularly useful in unforgiving climates where food is difficult to grow, or in an area plagued by raiders but can be used elsewhere as well.
At Higher Level.
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you need the blood of a medium (or larger) sized creature that's native to the plane where the spell is cast, and you can affect an additional area equal to 50ft x 50ft for each slot above 1st
In addition, the caster may, if they desire, use multiple spell slots of the same level during the same ritual, thereby doubling the affected area for each slot used (ie. 2 slots = 2x area, 3 slots = 4 times area etc....) This does not eliminate the need for sacrificial creatures however, as you still need an adequate supply of blood to cover the affected area.
* - (The blood of 1 medium sized, or larger, creature (approx 6 liters) multiplied by the level the spell is cast, which is consumed)
