Damage/Effect

Choose one creature or nonmagical object that you can see within range. You transform the creature into a different creature. The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target drops to 0 hit points or dies. If you concentrate on this spell for the full duration, the transformation lasts until it is dispelled.

This spell has no effect on a shapechanger or a creature with 0 hit points. An unwilling creature can make a Wisdom saving throw, and if it succeeds, it isn’t affected by this spell. However, the target may only make this save if they are within line of sight or earshot of the caster.

The creature is limited in the actions it can perform by the nature of its new form, and it can’t speak, cast spells, or take any other action that requires hands or speech, unless its new form is capable of such actions.

(Note: The duration of this transmutation is actually ten years. D&D Beyond won't allow me to make a spell that lasts a year or more.)

Restrictions:

  • Only Arthur Aguefort may cast this spell. If someone else attempts to cast this from a spellbook or scroll, the caster must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or cast Polymorph, centered on themself. The new form may be chosen by the DM or the caster may roll on the Reincarnation table for their form. This Polymorph can only be reversed by the caster, and the spellcasting check to succeed has a DC of 20.
  • The creature must be transformed into a humanoid. This humanoid need not be capable of speech. If the caster wishes to turn the target into a different type of creature, they must make a spellcasting check (Intelligence, but Charisma for a bard or warlock that succeeds the initial Wisdom save), DC 25.
* - (A drop of mercury, a dollop of gum arabic, and a wisp of smoke (which the spell consumes))
