Upon casting this spell, shards of thick frigid ice cover your hand transforming it into a claw of icy spikes. As part of the casting of the spell you can make a melee spell attack against one creature within 5 feet of you, on hit, the creature takes 1d10 cold damage. Alternatively, when you cast this spell you can choose to have the ice coalesce in your hand to form a javelin. With it, as part of the same action of casting the spell, you can make a ranged spell attack against a creature you can see within 120 feet of you, on hit the creature takes 1d8 cold damage. However, if the creature is more than 30 feet away, you make the spell attack with disadvantage. Regardless of if the spell hits or misses, the ice created by the casting of this spell melts at the end of your turn.
The spell's damage increases by 1d10 for the icy clawand 1d8 for the icy javelin when you reach 5th level (2d10 or 2d8), 11th level (3d10 or 3d8), and 17th level (4d10 or 4d8).
