You conjure ghostly images to re-enact an event in an inanimate object's past.
As part of casting the spell you must state the event you wish to see in a single sentence while holding the object. The event must be an act or series of acts that could be witnessed by someone in the same location as the object. For example you could pull the dagger out of the back of a corpse and say "show me the last time this knife was used" or "show me the last time the owner of this knife drew his weapon" but not "what is the name of the owner of this knife?" or "why was this man killed?".
When you cast this spell roll an Intelligence (History) check to determine if you can see far enough back into the object's history to view the event in question:
| Event Transpired Within | DC |
| 1 hour | 10 |
| 2-24 hours | 12 |
| 2-7 days | 15 |
| 8-30 days | 19 |
| 31-366 days | 24 |
If you succeed ghostly images appear in front of you and silently play out the event. If you fail the spell does nothing. If you roll a natural 1 on the Intelligence (History) check the spell displays an event from an alternate timeline showing you whatever the DM wishes.
The DM determines what the phantasms show you but may omit anything that transpired around the event that is not directly relevant to the statement you made when you cast the spell. The phantoms closely resemble the characters and objects they are portraying but are obviously illusory to all who witness them. The phantoms will re-enact the event for up to one minute after which they dissipate into wisps of blue smoke.
