Arcane Augmentation

This spell was invented by Mordenkainen while studying an ancient artifact known as a mythallar. It was developed on the plane of Calmorda, where the Weave is fragile and the goddess of magic, Mystra, does not have a conscious presence. This spell removes many of the safeguards placed on mortal magic by the divines, and as such it is a closely guarded secret, lest an incautious mage draw the ire of those who safeguard the Weave.

Faintly glowing arcane runes encircle each of your hands, greatly focusing your magical ability. For the duration, you gain the ability to concentrate on a number of additional spells up to your intelligence modifier. If you take damage, you make Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration for each of the spells separately, but if you lose concentration on this spell, you can only maintain concentration on one other spell. You gain additional bonuses to your spellcasting when casting this spell at higher levels.

At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell using a spell slot 4th level or higher, you may use your bonus action on your turn to cast a spell of 1st level or higher that has a casting time of 1 action.

If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, you may cast a spell that is not a cantrip for your action on your turn, if you used your bonus action that turn to cast a spell.

If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, you may combine two spell slots of the same level into a single spell slot of 1 level higher, repeating as many times as you wish, whenever you cast a spell. If you combine two spell slots in this fashion, you take psychic damage equal to the level of the combined spell slot. For example, you can use 2 1st level spell slots and a 2nd level spell slot as a 3rd level spell (5 points of damage). This damage cannot be reduced or prevented in any way.
