An lance of crystal forms in front of you; suspended by arcane energy. When the lance is formed, you can continue to charge the crystal with energy on each of your turns if you don't make any other attacks or release it by making a ranged spell attack as an action; either as a part of casting this spell or on a later turn of yours. When released, the lance launches in a straight line towards a creature or object, impaling it in an impressive show of force. The creatures or object hit takes 1d4 piercing and 1d4 force damage plus 1d4 piercing and 1d4 force damage for every round you charged this spell.
Due to the crystal's instability, If you are struck in melee, the offending creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the spell ends immediately, causing the lance to break down, releasing the arcane energy into the creature. The offending creature takes the total force damage stored in the lance. On a successful save, the creature sidesteps the released energy, taking no damage.
At Higher Levels. At 5th level the lance's base damage increases by 1d4 for both damage types. The base damage increases again at 11th level and 17th level.
