You start to steal the lifeforce of a creature or plants nearby.

This spell has no effect on constructs. A conscious target must make a disadvantage wisdom saving throw. If the target fails or is unconscious, you deal 2d4 + your wisdom modifier (atleast +1) necrotic damage and heal yourself by half. At the beginning of every turn of the target, the target has to make a disadvantage wisdom saving throw, if failed deal the previously specified amount damage until the saving throw is succesful, the spell gets dispelled or the target dies. You can use this spell on the surrounding aslong as living plants are nearby. In that case roll damage and heal as usuall, but be aware that small plants and grass die in 1 turn, bushes in probably 1-2 turns etc... (discuss things like that with your DM).

If you increase the spell level add 1d4 for every level.
