You speak a one-word command to a creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or follow the command on its next turn. The spell has no effect if the target is undead, if it doesn't understand your language, or if your command is directly harmful to it.
Some typical commands and their effects follow. You might issue a command other than one described here. If you do so, the DM determines how the target behaves. If the target can't follow your command, the spell ends.
Approach. The target moves toward you by the shortest and most direct route, ending its turn if it moves within 5 feet of you.
Drop. The target drops whatever it is holding and then ends its turn.
Flee. The target spends its turn moving away from you by the fastest available means.
Grovel. The target falls prone and then ends its turn.
Halt. The target doesn't move and takes no actions. A flying creature stays aloft, provided that it is able to do so. If it must move to stay aloft, it flies the minimum distance needed to remain in the air.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can affect one additional creature for each slot level above 1st. The creatures must be within 30 feet of each other when you target them.
REPENT!! Just think about the possibilities!
I stole the cookies from the cookie jar when I was 8 years old. I don't pay taxes. My spouse doesn't love me anymore, but I still love her/ him.
I mean, seriously some FUN things can happen with this spell. It's like Zone of Truth, but with soooo much leeway.
End result? Subject of spell spends a round divulging secret guilt. Lost round is good, but the role-playing humour? PRICELESS!!!
I saw a post stating you could command someone to attack someone else, I did this as a DM when my dice turned against me, I commanded the warlock to attack the barbarian so at least the party was dealt some damage during the encounter. It got me thinking, could you command the spell caster to rage? Command the Druid to change? This could be a little bit of meta from the DM but at the same time a villain watches the Druid wild shape into a bear, command them to change back. Command the rogue to"come” out of hiding. What does everyone think of these uses?
Depression!
The thing about uses like this is that the spell says it has to be a one-word command. I am not sure how you would condense a command to attack a specific character down to a single word.
Do Bards not have this?
This spell is not on the Bard spell list, though Bards do get access to a limited subset of spells from other classes via their "Magical Secrets" feature. There are a few other ways a Bard could get it, such as the Fey Touched feat.
