A creature of your choice that you can see within range regains hit points equal to 1d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier. This spell has no effect on undead or constructs.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the healing increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 1st.
Im sure you could find an English to Elven translator online and basically string together a short sentence to speak for your spells!!!
I use a random Shakespeare insult generator for my Bard and his cantrip ranged attack! The first time I did my DM had to take a break because he almost pissed himself !
God yes. Why would people in Faerun/Eberron/Wherever even be using Latin anyway? Faerun had ancient Egyptians and Sumerians imported, not Romans.
the creature you want to heal should be able to hear/understand/

Latin was used by ancient Egyptians. It was the language of 'scholars' after all. It was a language than transcended kingoms and borders.
...Rome was traditionally founded in 753 BCE. The New Kingdom of Egypt is typically dated to have ended in 1077 BCE. The Oldest confirmed sample of Latin is dated to the 7th century BCE. Even most writing coming out of Roman Egypt were written in Greek, which was the Scholarly and classy language of Ptolemaic Egypt, while Latin never became dominant.
So no, Ancient Egyptians weren't using a language that didn't exist. Well, technically some very late Egyptians were, but it seems very unlikely that those Egyptians were the inspiration for Mulhorand, given everything about their displayed religion, culture, aesthetics and the fact that they'd likely be speaking Coptic and have a good likelihood of being Christian by time Latin became common.
Very good information. I've seen it stated that Latin was used in Egypt during the middle ages, which could be as early as 5th century, but hardly qualifies as 'ancient'. Still, D&D's core setting being Middle Age Fantasy, and Latin being used extensively in the middle ages, it seems like a good choice for spell casting language. I tried using words from Tolkien's elvish language in one campaign, which I though was great, but ended up abandoning halfway though. Really while any language would work, Latin feels like a sufficient starting point.
Look, if you want to use Latin in your games/stories, don't let me stop you. I'm just tired of every "grand work of fantasy" deciding that (pseudo)Latin is a Mystical Language of the Arcane, and even in worlds where there's never been any Romans and no stuffy European scholars ever decided that their dead language is the most special and wonderful thing ever.
Well, do you know any Sumerian? How about Middle Egyptian? Hebrew? Phoenician? Mayan? Ancient Greek? Tolkien's Elvish or Dwarvish maybe?
Latin is most often used (or simulated), because it is a the only traditional occult language which uses our alphabet (or rather, we use theirs), and the one that most people are familiar with, in terms of both language and culture.
take this and inflict wounds if you wanna be a non heal-bot cleric
Maybe not, since it is magic. Viscous Mockery doesn’t require the target to even know what language is for it to work.
>Be druid.
>Be circle of the shepherd.
>Get moonsickle
>Summon unicorn spirit.
>Cast healing word as a bonus action for 1d4+1d4+spellcasting ability modifier+moonsickle rarity+your level in the druid class. At lvl 20 this would be 2d4+6+3+20 so 2d4+29, which is 31-37 and mind you, EVERY creature gets the +20 within the aura wich could be your entire party and any friendly NPC and the BBEG just to spite him.
evocation PARDON!!!!
it should be necromancy
+4
yes
Its the same when I hear characters in fantasy worlds that have nothing to do with the French use words like 'rendez-vous' or 'i bid you adieu'. Could these creators not come up with local sayings that highlight the languages of its people? Lazy writing I suppose.
So when you use Healing Word as a bonus action, does it take up a 1st level spell slot? Asking for a friend... that is me.
Yes. The fact that the casting time is a bonus action has no bearing on it being a 1st level spell and thus subject to spell slot rules. (I realize this response is a few months late, but just in case anyone had that same question, lol)
Pair this with Circle of Stars druid: Archer constellation.
The DnD Beyobd character Tool somehow calculates a stell modifier of +6 for my newly created cleric.
Wisdom modifier is +3.What am u missing?
Edit: found my mistake. Had activated life domain
