Base Class: Monk
Though all monks know how to wield the power that dwells within their spirit known as ki, only those who follow the Way of the Mystic Soul master it. These intuitive monks are as one with their inner spirit and can exert immense control over the ki that flows through their bodies. However, their true power lies in being able to manipulate the ki within others. By doing this they can discern both the physical, mental and spiritual states of others, unlock their spirit’s hidden potential and even seal their spirit away.
Soul Sense
Beginning when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use ki to sense a creature's spiritual and physical health. You gain proficiency in the Wisdom (Medicine) and Wisdom (Insight) skills. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can tap into a creature’s ki to learn its current disposition towards you, such as if it is hostile, neutral or friendly towards you. You must be able to see the creature to use this feature.
Impart Ki
Also at 3rd level, you can implant others with a small measure of your own spirit. After taking the Attack action to make an unarmed strike against a creature, you can choose to imbue it with a small amount of your own ki as a bonus action. The ki remains inside them for a number of hours equal to half your monk level rounded up, or until you choose to remove it (requires no action by you). While a creature is imbued with your ki, you gain the following benefits:
- You always know the general direction that the creature is in, and it cannot be hidden or invisible from you.
- You can speak telepathically with the creature, provided that it is within 300 feet of you. The creature can reply telepathically to you, but must speak the same language as you to understand your messages.
- When the creature attacks or casts a spell, you can use your reaction to cause your ki to lash out from within the creature. The creature then takes force damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom modifier.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier per long rest.
Unified Spirit
At 6th level, you’ve learnt how to use your ki to unify your body and mind. When you use your Patient Defense feature, you can spend 1 additional ki point to also gain advantage on Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma saving throws.
In addition, whenever a creature that has been imbued with your ki drops to 0 hit points, you regain 1 ki point.
Unleashed Potential
At 11th level, you’ve learnt how to manipulate a creature’s spirit to temporarily empower them. As an action, you can spend 1 to 5 ki points to touch a willing creature and unlock its spiritual limiters using your ki. The creature immediately gains 10 temporary hit points for every ki point you spent. While a creature has these temporary hit points, it has advantage on all saving throws and attack rolls it makes. The temporary hit points vanish after you take a short or long rest.
You can use this feature once per short rest.
Soul Seal
At 17th level, you’ve learnt how to seal away a creature’s spirit using your ki. As an action, you can spend 5 ki points to force a creature you touch to make a Constitution saving throw. If the target has been imbued with your ki, it has disadvantage on its saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 4d10 force damage and suffers the following effects for 1 minute:
- It cannot regain hit points.
- Its speed is halved.
- It cannot take reactions.
- It cannot cast spells.
- It can only make one attack on its turn.
On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and suffers no other effects. An affected creature can reroll its saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
In addition, if the target of this feature fails its saving throw while under the effects of the Astral Projection spell, its silvery cord is immediately cut.
You can use this feature once per long rest.
