Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Hunting prey to create masks. Utilising those masks to hunt bigger and stronger prey. Commanding the power within the masks to shift and change their own abilities. Such is the way of Masked Hunters. A rare and near forgotten ability, Masked Hunters infuse the energy and abilities of their quarry into masks that they create. Though temporary, the masks they wear provide them with increased abilities, and some are even able to completely change their form based on their mask.

Mask Construction

3rd-level Masked Hunter feature

You gain proficiency with an Artisan’s tool of your choice.

Mask of the Prey

3rd-level Masked Hunter feature

After a creature that is of your Favoured Enemy type is slain, you can spend 1 minute with the body of the creature, that has been dead for no longer than 1 day, crafting a mask that becomes infused with the essence of the creature. You can have a number of Masks of the Prey equal to your Proficiency bonus. You can easily remove the magic in a mask to replace it with another creature. Only you can benefit from the magic within the masks.

You can don or doff a Mask as a bonus action. While you wear this Mask, you gain all of the creature’s special traits such as Keen Senses, Amphibious, and other such features, and its special senses, such as Darkvision and Blindsight. This does not include legendary resistances or any form of spellcasting. Additionally, you do not gain any new limbs so any traits that relate solely to additional limbs a creature may have are rendered inoperative.

Additionally, if the creature has a skill bonus that is higher than your own, you can substitute your bonus with that of the creature. You can only do this for one skill and must decide which skill when you don the Mask.

The magic in these masks is relatively fragile. As such, a mask can only be worn for a total of an hour. After it has been worn for a full hour, the mask breaks and loses all magic.

Mask of the Predator

7th-level Masked Hunter feature

When you don a Mask of the Prey or a Mask of the Foe you can choose to cast the spell polymorph on yourself without expending a spell slot, turning yourself into the creature whose mask you don regardless of its creature type, provided its Challenge Rating is lower than your level. If your polymorphed form is reduced to 0 hit points, you revert to your normal form as normal, and your mask breaks.

You can revert back to your normal form as a bonus action, doing so does not break your mask. Subtract the time you spent polymorphed from the mask's duration.

Mask of Deception

11th-level Masked Hunter feature

When you don a Mask of the Prey or a Mask of the Foe, you gain access to the creature’s mind. As such, you gain all the creature’s surface memories and knowledge that it had at the time of its death. This can include what it was thinking during its last battle, where it was heading, where it was coming from, etc. The DM will let you know what these memories are when they become relevent or immediately, their choice.

You can also understand and speak any languages that the creature knew in life while you wear the mask.

Mask of the Hunter

15th-level Masked Hunter feature

You can choose a certain mask as being your favourite, infusing it with some extra magic. At the end of a Long rest, you can choose one of your Masks of the Prey or ones of your Masks of the Foe. The Mask you choose can be worn for any amount of time and will not break, and you can substitute any number of your skill bonuses for those of the creature’s. You can choose a new Mask to be your Mask of the Hunter at the end of each long rest.

Additionally, while wearing your Mask of the Hunter, you gain a bonus to your attack and damage rolls to creatures of a lower CR than your mask. The bonus equals your Proficiency Bonus.

You do not gain these bonuses while polymorphed into the creature, as with Mask of the Predator, and the mask can still break due to being reduced to 0 hit points while polymorphed.

Changelog

2.0 - Basic wording changes.
Added Polymorph reversion rules to Mask of the Predator.
Added optional Mask of the Foe feature, an alternative to Mask fo the Prey that works with the optional Favored Foe feature in TCoE

1.3 - Removed Mask of Many Faces, it was found to be mostly useless and stepped on too many toes of other classes making this too "jack of all trades".
Added "Additionally, you do not gain any new limbs so any traits that relate solely to additional limbs a creature may have are rendered inoperative" to Mask of the Prey. It was found to be confusing regarding particular creatures and some of their traits so they were simply made moot.

1.2 - Added "You do not gain these bonuses while polymorphed into the creature, as with Mask of the Predator, and the mask can still break due to being reduced to 0 hit points while polymorphed" to Mask of the Hunter.
Changed "memories" to "surface memories" for Mask of Deception, and added "This can include what it was thinking during its last battle, where it was heading, where it was coming from, etc. The DM will let you know what these memories are when they become relevent or immediately, their choice."
Changed "reverts to an ordinary mask which can then be used for another Mask of the Prey" to "breaks" for Mask of the Prey.

1.1 - Added "and its special senses, such as Darkvision and Blindsight" to Mask of Prey. It was found to be lacking in versatility, making certain monsters completely useless to create masks from. This should hopefully allow most creatures to be valid masks.
