Base Class: Ranger
Deft Corsairs are a particular archetype of Ranger with a… unique interpretation of a “man of the land.” They are, rather, men of the sea, with nautical skill and treasure hunting know how that make them excellent mates aboard any vessel. Beware, however, for their fighting is fierce and rampant with scoundrel tactics.
Treasure Hunter
At 3rd Level, you have obtained skills required to hunt for bounty and riches alike. You gain the following benefits:
- You gain proficiency with Cartographer’s and Navigators tools.
- You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) and Wisdom (Perception) checks to find hidden containers or stashes. (I.e. chests and lock boxes)
- You gain Tremorsense out to 10 feet.
- You can make a DC 10 (+4 per item rarity) check using either Intelligence (History) or Wisdom (Insight) to appraise an object you are holding to determine its value in gold pieces.
Deft Corsair Magic
Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Deft Corsair Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.

| Ranger Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Identify |
| 5th | Knock |
| 9th | Water Breathing |

Savvy Cutthroat
Beginning at 3rd Level, your time on the seas thus far has taught you not just nautical travel, but also how to handle yourself in the heat of battle using scoundrel’s techniques. Your weapon attack rolls score critical hits on rolls of a 19 or 20.
Additionally once on your turn, when you score a critical hit with a weapon attack roll, you deal an additional 1d8 damage of the weapon’s damage type.
Old Salt
At 7th Level, your experience at sea has made you harden your body and senses to it’s pace. You now gain an additional 10 feet of movement, and have advantage on saving throws to resist being knocked prone, and can get up from prone by only expending 5 feet of movement.
Additionally, you ignore the effects of lightly obscured areas. Furthermore, areas that are heavily obscured no longer impose the blinded condition to you, but rather impose disadvantage on perception checks when in the area.
Opportunist
At 11th level, when you score a critical hit with a weapon attack when taking the attack action, you can make a third weapon attack as part of that attack action. This third attack has advantage and deals an additional 1d8 damage if the third attack scores a critical hit.
Brazen Buccaneer
At 15th level, your fiendish style of fighting combined with expert knowledge of nautical travel make manifest in a final set of skills. You gain the following benefits:
- Your weapon attacks score critical hits on a roll of 18-20.
- You become immune to the Frightened and Charmed conditions.
- When you are hit by a weapon attack, you can use a reaction to roll a d6, on a roll of 5 or higher, the attack fails regardless of the roll.
