Monk
Base Class: Monk

After years and even entire lifetimes of soul searching Monks of the Way of the Soulmaster have come to terms with their true self; learning to utilize not only their own souls in battle, but to attack the very souls of other beings using their own.

Empowered Spirit

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level you learn to use your soul to further empower yourself. As an action you can expend 1 Ki point to draw energy from your soul and gain one of the following effects for a number of turns equal to your Charisma score;

  • You have advantage on all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.
  • When you make an unarmed strike you have +1 to damage rolls and attacks, and your unarmed strikes are considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance against all creatures except constructs.
  • You gain temporary HP equal to 10 x half of your monk level (rounded down).

At first when you reach 6th level and again at 17th level you gain one extra effect from this feature per use. Additionally, you may now use your Charisma modifier, instead of your Wisdom modifier, for your unarmored defense and tranquility features, and for calculating your Ki save DC.

Soul Glimpse

Beginning at 6th level you gain the ability to stare into another creature’s soul, seeing their true intentions. Once per short rest you can look into the eyes of one creature you can see and attempt to peer into their soul. That creature must make a Charisma saving throw against your Ki save DC. On a failure, you learn of that creature’s alignment and true race.

If the targeted creature is currently possessed or controlled by another creature, you instead learn that the target is possessed and the possessor’s alignment and race.

Ethereal Tear

Starting at 11th level you learn to attack a creature beyond their physical form, attacking directly to their soul. Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike you can expand 2 Ki points and force a creature to make a Charisma saving throw against your Ki save DC. On a failure the creature’s soul is temporarily shaken inside its body, giving the target the paralyzed condition for 1d4 turns.

If the targeted creature is possessed or being controlled by another creature the controlling creature must make a Charisma saving throw against your charisma score or free the possessed creature, ending the control. This feature has no effect on constructs.

Vitality Obliteration

When you reach 17th level your powers over souls in combat reach their peak, allowing you to completely destroy the souls of creatures who find you as their foe. Once per week when you use Ethereal Tear you can expend 15 additional Ki points and force the target to roll an additional Charisma saving throw, on a failure if the target has under 75 hit points its soul is shattered inside its body and is removed from existence, killing the target.

If the target succeeds on the saving throw or has over 75 hit points it is unaffected by this feature. Targets killed by this effect do not reveal to the afterlife or their original planes and instead are reduced to nothingness.
