Base Class: Barbarian
Having to deal with Exhaustion just for a measly Bonus Attack is a raw deal, especially when haste exists. I threw together this New and Improved Berserker skill list to bring the subclass in line with some of the other powerful stuff from new books, as well as provide some options for different playstyles.
Notable changes are:
- A new feature to enable better two weapon fighting options for those Barbarians that want to dual wield axes or other actual strength weapons.
- Frenzy's Exhaustion changed to a single turn of reduced movement and Disadvantaged rolls, with some extra oomph on the Bonus Attack to make it feel strong, with the catch being that you must be dual wielding or 2 handing to use it.
- Mindless Rage now removes Charm and Fear effects on you instead of just pausing them.
- Retaliation moved down to 10th level, given some free movement, and juiced up a bit. A single piddly attack that can only be used on melee attackers is pretty boring, now you can make the pesky wizards truly fear you.
- Intimidating Presence moved up to 14th level and overhauled to affect multiple targets and actually have a chance at succeeding. Really, WHO is building Charisma on a Barbarian? Not to mention you have to sacrifice your action to use it? It might as well not exist. Now you simply terrify your foes by being yourself, a raging whirlwind of bloody destruction.
Frenzied Strikes
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, using your rage causes you to enter a volatile frenzy. For the duration of your Rage you can make a single melee weapon attack as a Bonus Action on each of your turns when you are wielding a Heavy weapon with two hands, or weapons without the Finesse trait in both hands, including as part of the Bonus Action to enter Rage. When rolling damage for this attack, the bonus damage from your Rage (as listed on the Barbarian table in the PHB) is doubled.
When your rage ends, are overcome with lethargy as your exertion takes its toll, reducing your speed to 0 and imposing Disadvantage on attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks until the end of your next turn.
Superior Two Weapon Fighting
Thanks to your prodigious strength and fearsome training, you can wield full size weapons in both hands without sacrificing technique or power. When you gain this feature at 3rd level, you can wield one handed weapons in both hands, even when they do not have the Light trait. Additionally, when making an attack as a Bonus Action for two weapon fighting, you can apply your ability score modifier to the off hand weapon.
Mindless Rage
Beginning at 6th level, you can’t be charmed or frightened while raging. If you are charmed or frightened when you enter your rage, the effect immediately ends.
Retaliation
Starting at 10th level, when you take damage from a creature that is within 30 feet of you, you can use your Reaction to move up to half your speed and use a Frenzied Strike against that creature.
Terrifying Presence
Beginning at 14th level, your rage is the the stuff of nightmares. When you enter a rage, creatures of your choice within 30 feet that can see or hear you must make a WIS saving throw (DC 8 + Proficiency + Strength) or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn. On subsequent turns, when a creature that is not frightened of you starts its turn or first moves within 30 feet of you and can see or hear you, or sees you deal a critical hit or reduce another creature to 0 hit points within 30 feet of it, it must also make a WIS saving throw to resist becoming frightened until the end of your next turn. This effect ends if the creature ends its turn more than 60 feet away from you.
If a creature succeeds on its saving throw, it is immune to your Intimidating Presence for 24 hours. A creature loses this immunity and must immediately make a new save if it sees you deal a critical hit or reduce a creature to 0 hit points within 30 feet of it.
