Base Class: Druid
Druids of the Circle of the Ancients draw power from those who roamed the ancient world, dinosaurs, primordial insects, and other long dead, long forgotten creatures, being able to tap into their primal ferocity to slay their foes and rule the wilds as the beasts of old once did.
Primal Recovery
Starting at 2nd level, you can reinvigorate yourself by tapping into primal forces in the land. During a short rest, when you expend hit die to regain hit points, you may add one hit die more than you expend to the regained health. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
For example, when you expend 3 hit die to regain hit points on a short rest, you may roll 4 hit die worth of dice to regain while only expending 3 hit die.
Form of the Ancients
Also at 2nd level, you gain the ability to channel primal energies into the form of ancient beasts. As an action, you can expend two uses of your Wild Shape feature to transform into a dinosaur of challenge rating 1 or less for a number of hours equal to half your druid level (rounded down). You can revert to your normal form earlier by using a bonus action on your turn. You automatically revert if you fall unconscious, drop to 0 hit points, or die.
The challenge rating of this transformation increases to challenge rating 4 at level 10 and increases further to challenge rating 8 at level 14.
Sharp Senses
At level 3, your attunement to the ancient energies in the land, your senses are enhanced by them. Once per short rest, whenever you roll a Wisdom (Perception) or a Wisdom (Survival) check, you can roll that check with advantage. Also, if you spend 1 minute meditating, you can sense any beast within 30ft of you.
Empowered Form
Starting at 6th level, your Wild Shape gains further empowerment due to your connections with the ancient energies of the world. When you use you Wild Shape or Form of the Ancients abilities you gain one of the following effects:
- You gain a +2 bonus to your AC.
- Your attacks count as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
- Your movement speed increases by 15ft.
Surging Form
When you reach 10th level, you can cause your form to surge with pure primal force, enhancing your power, but at a cost to yourself. Once per use of your Wild Shape or Form of the Ancients ability, as an action, you become one size larger, gain a +1 bonus to your AC, and deal an extra 2 damage die worth of damage until your Wild Shape or Form of the Ancients ends. When you use this ability, when your Wild Shape or Form of the Ancients ends, you gain a point of exhaustion.
Mastery of Form
When you reach 14th level, you've mastered your primal transformations. When you use your Form of the Ancients, it only expends one use of Wild Shape. In addition, you can use your Form of the Ancients ability to transform into a Giant Ape or a Mammoth instead of a Dinosaur.
