Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the Way of the Bolt are able to channel the wrath of the storm through their own bodies. They become stronger, faster, and capable of redirecting the storm's energy into devastating attacks.
Become the Bolt
At 3rd level, you can channel the power of lightning to strike at your foes. Whenever you attack a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects.
- On a hit, your lightning arcs out to do additional lightning damage equal to one roll of your martial arts die + your Wisdom modifier. You can apply this extra damage only once per turn.
- The static surrounding you makes you harder to hit. You gain a +2 bonus to AC until the start of your next turn. You lose this bonus if you are incapacitated.
- You have advantage on the attacks granted by Flurry of Blows.
The Lightning Inside
At 6th level you gain resistance to lightning damage. You become immune to lightning damage when you reach 17th level.
One with the Storm
At 6th level as a bonus action you can cloak yourself in lightning for 1 min or until you dispel it, granting you enhanced speed and reflexes.
- You gain a number of extra reactions per round equal to half your wisdom modifier, rounded down (minimum 1).
- When you hit with an attack, you deal an extra 1d6 lightning damage (this damage increases with your martial arts die).
You become the Storm Incarnate. This feature gains the following improvements when you reach 17th level.
- The number of extra reactions you gain per round is increased to an amount equal to your Wisdom modifier, instead of half.
- When a creature within your melee range hits you with a melee attack you can use a reaction to make a single unarmed strike against it.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier. It recharges on a long rest.
You Must Find Balance
Beginning at 11th level you can spend 2 ki points as an action to cast Lightning Bolt.
Additionally, when you take lightning damage from a ranged spell attack or area effect you may use your reaction to redirect it. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 4d10 + your Wisdom modifier + your monk level. When you use this feature to absorb lightning from an area effect, all creatures within the area have advantage on their saving throws. If you reduce the damage to 0, you may use 1 ki point to make a ranged spell attack at an enemy within 60 ft, dealing 3d8 lightning damage + your Wisdom modifier (this increases to 3d10 when you reach 17th level). You use Wisdom as your spellcasting modifier for the purposes of this feature. If you are immune to lightning damage you automatically redirect the lightning as if you had reduced the damage to 0. If you do not reduce the damage to 0 or spend a ki point, you simply redirect the lightning into the sky.
Each Step Like Thunder
Beginning at 17th level when you Dash you do not provoke opportunity attacks until the end of your turn. If you have not moved yet during your turn, you can spend 2 ki points to use your action to Dash and turn your movement into damage. When you move within 5 feet of a creature or object, it takes 1d10 thunder damage from the thunderous blasts generated by your footfalls. A creature or object can take this damage only once during a turn. For every additional ki point you spend (max 3) the damage increases by a d10. When you dash in this way you must use all of your movement before the end of your turn.
