Base Class: Fighter
I like the idea that the Champion offers always on abilities but I felt like they didn't evoke that Champion feel. Sure, rounded up Jack of All Trades, second fighting style,18-20 critical and per round regeneration are good but like the meme.. It could be better.
I believe OG_Diddles's Champion was on the right track by adding customizability in the remarkable athlete and enhanced fighting style features, but I felt it relied too heavily on the Hunter Ranger features.
I wanted this version of the Champion to somewhat represent all the classes, while still offering that element of customizability.
I shuffled the original features that the subclass provided as I didn't want to outright remove them(besides additional fighting style); to maintain the original version of it. I added feature choices from the core classes(excluding Wizard,Sorcerer, Druid and Artificer) but ended needing to dip into subclasses for two of the options.
Since Remarkable Athlete was a rounded up Jack of All Trades plus running long jump, I figured I might as well just use the actual Jack of All Trades(rounded down, unfortunately) from Bard as the first option. Uncanny Dodge and Evasion do represent the Rogue, but Monks do get Evasion as well, so that covered those two classes. Agile Counter came from the Great Old One Warlock's Entropic Ward; as I felt that it was a pretty good martial feature.
I moved Superior Critical to 10th and added the running long jump thing to it(I didn't want to get rid of it), I moved it here due to the second tier of feature options coming from a higher level in their respective classes........and I wanted the capstone to be another critical scale improvement.
At 15th you reach the second tier of feature options. Survivor is a good feature but not as a capstone feature to me, so it become the first feature option representing the Fighter. Brutal Critical just made sense as feature option for this Subclass; as its commen to see it combo with improved critical when Barbarians dip into Champion. Augmented Attacks represents the Paladin's Improved Divine Smite and Cleric's Blessed or Divine Strike feature. Multiattack defense is a great feature for those who are tank focused, its from the Hunter Ranger Subclass, which also has the same element of customizability that I wanted for Champion.
By 18th you rewarded with an OP feature for your Commitment.
The Champion focuses on the development of raw physical power honed to deadly perfection. Those of this archetype have an insatiable desire for learning and improving. The Champion utilizes skills learned from other martial practioners through observation or outright apprenticeship, rigorously training themselves to physical excellence.
Improved Critical
Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
Remarkable Athlete
At 7th level, you gain one of the following features of your choice.
- Jack of All Trades
You can add half your proficiency bonus (rounded down) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn't already use your proficiency bonus.
- Uncanny Dodge
When an attacker that you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to halve the attack’s damage against you.
- Evasion
When you are subjected to an effect, such as a red dragon’s fiery breath or a lightning bolt spell, that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.
- Agile Counter
When a creature makes an attack roll against you, you spend your reaction to impose disadvantage on that roll. If the attack misses you, your next attack roll against the creature has advantage if you make it before the end of your next turn.
Superior Critical
Starting at 10th level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20.
In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier.
Unrestricted Prowess
At 15th level, you gain one of the following features of your choice.
- Survivor
You attain the pinnacle of resilience in battle. At the start of each of your turns, you regain hit points equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier if you have no more than half of your hit points left. You don't gain this benefit if you have 0 hit points.
- Brutal Critical
You can roll two additional weapon damage die when determining the extra damage for a critical hit with a melee attack.
- Augmented Attacks
Your melee weapon strikes are suffused by your raw physical power. Whenever you hit a creature with a melee weapon, the creature takes an extra 1d8 damage.
- Multiattack defense
When a creature hits you with an attack, you gain a +4 bonus to AC against all subsequent attacks made by that creature for the rest of the turn.
Ultimate Critical
At 18th level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 16–20.
