Base Class: Fighter
Dragoons are powerful physical attackers who wield spears and lances. They wear special armor meant to invoke the imagery of dragons, including helmets shaped like a dragon's head, spikes, and wing and scale designs. Dragoons are sometimes more directly tied to dragons, such as owning them as pets or otherwise befriending them. Commonly Dragoons wear scale armor and use only polearms in battle except the occasional sword.
Draconic Power
3rd-level Dragoon feature
You harbor a wellspring of untapped energy within yourself. This energy is represented by your draconic power dice, which are each a d6. You have a number of these dice equal to twice your proficiency bonus, and they fuel various draconic powers you have, which are detailed below.
Some of your powers expend the Draconic Power die they use, as specified in a power’s description, and you can’t use a power if it requires you to use a die when your dice are all expended. You regain all your expended Draconic Power dice when you finish a long rest. In addition, as a bonus action, you can regain one expended Draconic Power die, but you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
When you reach certain levels in this class, the size of your Draconic Power dice increases: at 5th level (d8), 11th level (d10), and 17th level (d12). The powers below use your Draconic Power dice.
Drain. When you damage a creature you may expend a draconic power die to absorb some of the life energy from your opponent. You heal a number of HP equal to the number rolled on your draconic power die + your wisdom modifier.
Jump Strike. Once on each of your turns you may expend a draconic power die to do a Jump attack. Jumping into the air with your polearm held high, you may target any enemy within 30ft of your starting position. This deals force damage equal to the number rolled on your draconic power die combined with your wisdom modifier.
Highwind Movement. You may expend a draconic power die to double your speed for a round.
Dragoon Adept
7th-level Dragoon feature
You have mastered new ways to use your Draconic abilities, detailed below.
Highwind Vault. You may expend a draconic power die to vault over enemies with ease. This lets you quickly leave their area of effect, negating opportunity attacks as you move about, until the end of your turn.
Aerial Thrust. When you deal damage to a target with your Jump Strike, you can force the target to make a Strength saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier. If the save fails, you can knock the target prone or move it up to 10 feet in any direction horizontally.
Dragon's Breath. You may expend a draconic power die to do a breath attack in a 30ft cone. The damage type is your choice of acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison. The damage equals the number rolled on your draconic power die + your wisdom modifier.
Once you take this action, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a Draconic Power die to take it again.
Hardened Shell
10th-level Dragoon feature
You become harden in mind and body through your training. You have gained resistance to bludgeoning damage from the constant practice of falling. Moreover, if you start your turn charmed or frightened, you can expend a Draconic Power die and end every effect on yourself subjecting you to those conditions.
Dragon's Heart
15th-level Dragoon feature
You can shield yourself or others with your draconic power. As a bonus action on your turn, or as a reaction when you or an ally takes damage you may activate the ability Dragon's Heart which casts deathward on a target within a 30ft range.
Once you take this action, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a Draconic Power die to take it again.
Master Dragoon
18th-level Dragoon feature
Improved Jump Strike. When using your jump strike ability you may use two draconic power die instead of one. Those around your target now take half damage.
