Base Class: Rogue
The Followers of the Marked One are rogues that the Marked One has determined have potential to change history. It bestows them with great power that they can strengthen through sacrifice that will aid them on their journey to full Ascension to the Marked One's plane, to carry out its bidding in the material plane. Followers of the Marked One have acquired this power by piquing the interest of the Marked One, whether through an action, or even one that is yet to come. The Marked One selects its followers based on how well they can serve it, and as they grow in power, so does the Marked One, allowing them to unlock new powers they can divine from its plane. These powers have charges that can be restored through sacrifice or short rests. Though most agree to serve the Marked One, some simply use its power and intend to overthrow it to fully absorb the Marked One’s plane and become the next Marked One.
General traits:
Followers of the Marked One carry a symbol of the Marked One somewhere on their body, you can decide where the mark is located and what it is. Followers of the Marked One slowly develop eyes similar to that of a tiefling, and eventually they will become very light sensitive. By level 9 it is recommended that an eye-covering is used (such as a WWI style gasmask or goggles). Due to the biological alterations that occur as a Follower grows in power, normal means of healing do not work.
Soul Trap
Starting at third level, using any edged weapon, the follower can cast this cantrip as a bonus action to imbue the blade with dark energy, and if the attack kills the target trap their soul until the end of one day in the follower's given universe. The soul can be used to restore an ability charge through sacrifice, or be sacrificed to the Marked One for 25% health restoration. Up to 3 souls can be carried at a given time. Souls are stored within the blade, not the follower, so if the blade is lost and a day passes, the souls are free.
Translocate
Translocate can be cast as an action and as a bonus action during combat. Doing so expends one charge of the action. The ability can be used as a dodge without opportunity attack due to it being instantaneous. The follower can select a location within the follower's clear view that they can fit into and move faster than light to the new location by using a planar gate conjured through the power of the Marked One. The maximum distance is determined both by sight, and by the follower's movement speed. To calculate possible distance, multiply movement speed by 1.5 times + DEX modifier. Cannot be used to shift through objects or destroy objects (unless it is fragile, like glass).
Charges start with 2 at 3rd level, and go up by 2 at 9th, 13th, and 17th level for a total of 8.
If the spell is used to teleport inside of a creature somewhat larger (same “size” but slightly larger than the player character) or 1 size larger you will deal 1d10 force damage to the creature unless a dc 16 con save is made to halve damage, however if the creature is killed by your action, you can enter another creature and violate the Pauli Exclusion Principle by existing in the same space as the entity, exploding it from the inside. You must succeed a DC 18 CON save to not take damage. The ability cannot be used to teleport inside a creature smaller than the follower, doing so would cause the follower to explode.
Planar Vision
By peering into the Marked One's plane, the follower has dark vision, in addition, the follower can see objects or entities they concentrate on through materials. The dungeon master determines what you can see, and it acts as a passive ability that grows over time.
Horror Beyond Imagination
Using an ability charge, the follower can invade the mind of another sapient entity and exploit its worst fear, create a horrid vision, and make it terrified of them for the next two turns. The entity must succeed a DC 16 wisdom save to prevent invasion, however if failed the creature must take the dash action if it comes within 5 feet of any creatures it is terrified of. This ability begins with 1 charge and will gain 1 at 9th, 13th, and 17th level for a total of 4. As the follower grows in power, they can select more party members for the entity to be terrified of, 3 at 9th, 4 at 13th, and 6 at 17th level (The follower can specify who the creature is afraid of).
Planar Shift
The follower can use a planar gate to walk in the plane of the Marked One. The follower can cast this as a cantrip outside of combat, and has two charges while in combat. This gives the follower advantage on attack rolls, and they cannot be seen unless See Invisibility or a similar spell is cast, or a NAT 20 perception check is passed. If the follower interacts with the material plane or attacks while in the plane of the Marked One, they return to the material plane in the same space that they are in the Marked One's plane.
Maelstrom of Blades
The followers of the Marked One can use a charge to levitate and command up to 4 blades 12 inches (30cm) or shorter. The blades can target one entity or multiple, each blade deals 1d6 + DEX modifier and is launched at a target with velocity equal to a crossbow, growing weaker as they go further away from their commander (effective up to 30 ft, any more and the blades fall to the ground). At 9th, 13th, and 17th level, the follower gains two extra blades to command up to 10. This ability takes one turn to cast.
Conjure Wraith
Create an entity created from energy found in the plane of the Marked One to mimic actions for 5 turns using a single charge. This action requires concentration and cannot attack, but can perform basic interactions with the material plane. This ability has only one charge.
Marked One's Blade
As a cantrip ability, the follower can create a blade at least 14 inches (35cm) long formed of energy from the Marked One's plane that does 2d6 damage. In general the blade can be anything you like it to be, but to capture the spirit of the Marked One's plane, describe it as an oily black shifting surface of many geometric shapes that constantly phase in and out of the material plane. Only one blade may be summoned at a time, and only followers of the Marked One can wield them.
Planar Destruction
As a high-level ability, summon astral bodies from the end and beginning of the Marked One's plane to rain down upon your enemies in the material plane. 5 astral bodies are summoned by default and two more can be added if the Follower empowers the attack with a soul. The damage is 3d4 damage per astral body hit. An astral body from the Marked One's plane is described as a miniature supernova forever suspended in the strange energy of the Marked One's plane.
Ascension
Briefly ascend to the plane of the Marked One fully and shed your material form. For 5 turns the material plane cannot act upon you, but you can act upon the material plane without personal consequence. Can only occur once per moon cycle.
