Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

The Scribeblood draws their magic from the innate power of their arcane lineage. Most often sorcerers of this origin come from families of wizards, sometimes bards and thus their bloodline’s exposure to magical energies grants them innate arcane prowess. This is the typical circumstance although sometimes Scribebloods are born when a lay person comes into contact with an enchanted spellbook and so on.

Arcane Aptitude

At 1st level your lineage grants you a certain aptitude for the arcane arts. When you see a spell (either from a scroll or in a spellbook) of a level you can cast you can take one minute to memorise it and add it to your list of known spells until your next long rest. If the spell is of your arcane tradition you can memorise it instantly. You can do this a number of times equal to half your proficiency bonus.

Arcane Brilliance

At 6th level your understanding of magic from your arcane tradition allows you to bend the rules of magic for the spells in that school of magic. Once per long rest you may use one of your known metamagic options on a spell from your chosen arcane tradition without expending sorcery points. If a metamagic option requires the use of multiple sorcery points this ability allows you to use one less than necessary.

War Scribe

At 14th level you gain the ability to understand spells as they are cast at you giving you the following benefits:

  • You gain advantage on saving throws from spells of your tradition
  • When you successfully save against a spell (of a level you can cast) you can use your reaction to expend 3 sorcery points to  inscribe it in runes along your body allowing you to cast that spell for the next minute. This effect ends when you use this ability on another spell.

Mystic Brilliance

At 18th level your aptitude for temporarily transcribing spells grows granting the following benefits:

  • When using metamagic on a spell you have War Scribed you don’t have to expend sorcery points
  • When rolling initiative, if you have all of your Arcane Aptitude slots filled, you regain sorcery points equal to your proficiency bonus
