Base Class: Bard
Where soldiers use swords and wizards use wands, a poet's weapon of choice is the pen.
Words can move mountains and armies alike and this has never been more true in the capabilities off those in the College of Authors. Though other bards prefer lutes and flutes, these bards love parchment and quill, and devote their lives towards books, rivalling many a wizard. Their purpose of life is to record the world around them. Some can even alter it. Their main source of power is their Bard's Tome.
Bard's Tome
When you join the College of Authors at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in forgery and calligraphy. You can also read the and write in any common language, however you cannot instantly understand encrypted codes. You also gain a tome for your collection of epic records and tales which is written in your own shorthand. For someone other than you to read it, they must roll a charisma check to beat 10+ your charisma modifier.
Spellbook
At 3rd level, your understanding of arcane rules allow you to learn two spells of your choice from any class. They must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Bard table, or a cantrip, up to max level 2.
The chosen spells count as bard spells for you but don’t count against the number of bard spells you know.
Unlike other spells, however, these spells also take their power from the very arcane runic shorthand you have forged to your tome. You may expend a Bardic Inspiration die instead of expending a normal spell slot, to cast one of your chosen spells. The level has to be of it's most base form for said spell.
Strange Faces
To maintain the main role as a passive observer, at 6th level you gain the ability to cast Polymorph without expending a spell slot.
Instead, as an action, you must expend and roll an inspiration die. The duration is a number of hours equal to the number rolled on said inspiration die. However, you may only use this ability on a willing target. It has no effect on an unwilling target.
Traveler’s Guide
At 14th level, you can write of a different plane or place. You can expend a number of Bardic Inspiration dice to transport or teleport.
One die: As an action, you teleport up to 100 ft to an unoccupied spot.
Two dice: After a minute of casting, you transport to a different plane under the DM's decision for 6 seconds.
Three dice: you transport to a plane you have previously been to of your choice for 1 minute or until you dispel it as a bonus action.
You may expend an extra Bardic Inspiration die to:
- extend your time in a different plane indefinitely
- bring up to 6 willing people with you. Unwilling must succeed on a wisdom saving throw.
Ex. Using five Bardic Inspiration dice allows you and 6 people to transport to a plane you've been before permanently.
