Base Class: Monk
Following the Way of Enlightenment is a harsh path of meditation and fasting, meant to help in abandoning one's physical body and in ascending to a higher level. Physical practice is all but neglected however, as a body in poor health is harder to abandon.
Partial Ascension
3rd level Way of Enlightenment feature
At 3rd level, you take your first steps towards true ascension. You have mastered the discipline of mind over matter, and whenever you make an Athletics or Acrobatics check you may add your Wisdom modifier to the result.
Additionally, as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to separate your soul from your body.
While this effect is active, your soul can move freely in any direction at a speed of 60 feet. It is invisible, incorporeal, weightless, makes no sound while moving, and cannot be targeted by any attack or spell. It is able to move through the space creature or solid object, and suffers no side effects from ending its movement inside such space. Your soul cannot attack, cast spells, or interact with objects.
Your body, however, falls prone and is considered incapacitated.
You can see and hear through both your soul and your body, but you are unable to speak. Your body and soul can never be more than half a mile apart.
This effect lasts for 30 minutes for each Monk level you have. You can also end it prematurely as a bonus action. Once you do so, or you are reduced to 0 hit points, or the time is up, your soul immediately returns to your body.
Fists of Transcendence
6th level Way of Enlightenment feature
At 6th level, you have learned to channel cosmic energy into your attacks. Your unarmed strikes can deal radiant (if your alignment is Good or Neutral) or necrotic (if your alignment is Evil) damage, instead of bludgeoning.
Necrotic
Your alignment is Evil and your unarmed strikes deal necrotic damage.
Radiant
Your alignment is either Neutral or Good, and your Fists of Transcendence deal radiant damage.
Transcendent Body
11th level Way of Enlightenment feature
At 11th level, your body begins to ascend to the cosmos. You have resistance to Radiant and Necrotic damage.
True Ascension
17th level Way of Enlightenment feature
At 17th level, you have discovered the secrets of ascension. You do not abandon your body, but instead transform it to resemble your soul. You gain a bonus to all your saves equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Additionally, as a bonus action, you may spend 7 ki points to enter a state of true ascension.
While in this state, you gain the following benefits:
- Your unarmed strikes deal extra damage equal to your Wisdom modifier
- Enemies have disadvantage on any attack roll that targets you
- You have advantage on Dexterity checks and saves
- You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed
This state lasts for up to 1 minute, though you may end it prematurely as a bonus action. Once it ends, if you are still airborne, you descend at a speed of 100 feet per turn and do not take fall damage once you land.
