Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Valley walkers are rogues that are close to the shadow of death. They gain unique talents from the Veil between.

Channeling

Level 3 Valley Walker feature

As a spiritualist, you have learned to channel Essence, remnants of spiritual energy that lingers in places.

Your access to this is represented by a total amount of essence. Your level determines the amount of essence you have.

You may use essence to fuel your spiritual abilities. The use of essence unlocks the Channel Dice, a d6 at level 3, that empowers you and represents the strength of your connection. This die changes as you gain levels, a d8 at level 9 and a d10 at level 15.

Mistcaller

Level 3 Valley Walker feature

You may spend an essence to summon a spectral mist from the land of the dead as a bonus action. The mist creeps out from you in a 15 foot radius, moving around corners and moving with you. Creatures are still able to see in this mist. The mist lasts for 10 minutes, or until you dismiss it as a free action or are incapacitated.

Bitter Gloom. While your Mistcaller Feature is active, when you take the attack action on your turn, you may spend an essence to have any attack from that action originate from anywhere within your radius, provided you can see the target and the target is also within your mist. Attacks made in this way allow for sneak attack damage, even if the other conditions of sneak attack are not met.

Creeping Haze.  While your Mistcaller feature is active, you may spend an essence to disappear into the mist until the end of your next turn. Attacks against you are made at disadvantage and you make stealth checks at advantage as you are completely obscured. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Shadow of Death

Level 9 Valley Walker feature

You creep among the living, bringing death with you. Your weapon attacks now deal an additional channel die of damage as long as you are targeting a creature in your mist. If you are successfully hidden from your target, this increases to two channel die.

Additionally, the range of your Mistcaller mist increases to 30 feet.

Baneful Fog

Level 13 Valley Walker feature

You gain two new ways to use your Mistcaller feature. Select from the options below.

Cold and Lonely

As a bonus action, you may spend an essence to isolate a creature in your mist. A 10 foot area around the creature's location becomes dense and confusing. A creature moving through the area must spend 4 feet of movement for every 1 foot it moves.

You may spend an essence to target a number of creatures to be unaffected by the area, spending an essence per creature.

Hidden From Harm

As an action, you may cloak up to five other creatures in your mist, spending an essence per target, granting them the same benefits as your Bitter Gloom feature. Additionally their movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.

Shepherd the Weak

When a creature you can see within your mist receives bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, you may use your reaction to spend an essence and grant them resistance to the damage.

Visions of the Valley

As an action, you may target a creature in your mist and spend an essence to give them a glimpse of the valley of death. Target creature makes a DC 15 wisdom saving throw, taking 4 channel die psychic damage and becoming frightened on a failure, or half as much and suffering no other penalty on a success.

Avatar of the Valley

You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

Additionally, once per day, you may target any number of creatures in your mist as an action, spending an essence per creature. Each creature takes necrotic damage equal to your sneak attack damage, ignoring resistances and immunities. You then gain temporary hit points equal to the amount rolled.
