Base Class: Monk
Most monks practice meditation to still their mind and body and focus their ki - but not all. The Way of Battle Meditation monk studies the ancient art of battle meditation, a type of meditation that connects, melds and empowers allies in battle and dispirits foes. It requires extreme mental discipline in the face of peril, and it can only be truly tested in great danger, which is why the technique is viewed by elders with both great reverence and caution. If executed successfully by a trained monk well-versed in combat, however, its powerful effects can guide the flow of battle towards victory.
Battle Meditation
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn the powerful battle meditation technique. By meditating and focusing your ki, even in the midst of chaos and danger, you can change the flow of battle. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to enter your battle meditation. Choose a number of creatures (this can include yourself) up to your Wisdom modifier within 30 feet of you. While any of these creatures are within 30 feet of you, they can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw they make. Each creature can add the d4 no more than once per turn.
Your battle meditation lasts for 1 minute, and ends early if you are incapacitated or die.
Dispiriting Influence
At 6th level, your battle meditation not only empowers your allies but demoralizes your foes. While your Battle Meditation feature is active, you can use your reaction to roll a d4 when a creature within 30 feet of you makes an attack roll, ability check or a saving throw. Subtract the number rolled from the attack roll, ability check or saving throw.
Battle Meld
Beginning at 11th level, your battle meditation connects the ki of all affected creatures, enhancing their teamwork, coordination and morale. Creatures under the influence of your Battle Meditation feature gain the following benefits:
- The creatures can communicate telepathically with each other, though they can only understand each other if they share a language.
- Once per turn, each creature can deal force damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die when they hit with an attack roll.
- A creature can use its reaction to give its use of the d4 roll to one of the other creatures. This creature can use this second d4 in the same ways it can use the first, and can roll both as part of the same attack roll, ability check or saving throw. If this d4 has not been used at the end of the round, it expires and cannot be used. A creature can only possess one additional d4 at a time.
Meditative Master
At 17th level, you have mastered the art of battle meditation. You can spend 5 ki points to activate Battle Meditation. When you do so, Battle Meditation lasts for 8 hours, and you receive its benefits without designating yourself as one of the chosen creatures.
