Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

An Autopractor is one who has a deep understanding of mechanics. To them, it's an art form, a way of life. Autopractors design and build automatons of all shapes and sizes. The uses for these automatons vary greatly. Some may use them for battle, and others might use them as unpaid workers.

Mechanist

At the 3rd level, your understanding of mechanics deepens greatly. You can now build, design, and repair Automatons using the necessary materials and equipment.

Automatons act as mindless followers that obey every command. Their health and damage depend on two things, the size of the automaton, and its attachments. Healing spells, poison, and any spells that would change their form do not work.

At the end of a long rest, you can create a new Automaton if you have tinkerer's tools with you and the required materials.

Automatons

Automatons under your ownership are friendly to you and your companions, and they obey your every command. You have a max command capacity of 2 at level 3, 3 at level 5, and 4 at level 9. Command capacity determines the total amount of Automatons that you can have. You determine the Automaton's appearances and attachments.

In combat, the Automatons share your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. They can move and use their reactions on their own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the dodge action unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command them to take one of the actions in its stat block or the Dash, Disengage, Help, Hide, or Search action.

If the mending spell is cast on an Automaton, it regains 2d6 hit points. If it has died within the last hour you can use the tinkerer's tools as an action to revive it, provided you are within 5 feet of it and you expend a spell slot of the 1st level or higher. The Automaton returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored.
