Base Class: Wizard
Wizards have a long history with the Elemental Planes, but none are as dedicated to their study as Bonded Summoners. Bonded Summoners specialize in the study of the Elemental Planes and the powerful manifestations of them, the Elementals. To become a bonded summoner, one must partake in a dangerous bonding ritual. Through this ritual, a bonded summoner forges a life-long bond with an Elemental and its home plane. This bond develops and deepens over time, altering the summoner's body with the physical traits of their bonded companion. The most powerful bonded summoners have reached the point where one is unable to tell the summoner from the summoned.
Planar Disciple
Choose your elemental plane of study: air, earth, fire, or water. You learn to speak the language associated with your elemental plane: Aquan, Auran, Ignan, or Terran. Once you have made your choice, it cannot be changed.
The elemental plane you choose affects the rest of your abilities as you advance in level as well as the type of elemental you can bond with.
Air
You learn to speak Auran.
Earth
You learn to speak Terran.
Fire
You learn to speak Ignan.
Water
You learn to speak Aquan.
Elemental Bond
When you become a bonded summoner, you must go through an intense bonding ritual with the elemental plane of your element of study. This ritual grants you the permanent companionship of an elemental familiar you can summon to your side. This bond is both magical and physical, starting you on your path of elemental mastery.
As an action, you may summon your Bonded Elemental as if you had cast the spell Summon Elemental. The spell's effect is always cast at the highest spell level available to you, including spell levels lower than the spell would normally require. You do not need to concentrate to maintain this spell, it does not consume a spell slot, does not require material components, and the spell persists until you dismiss the elemental or the elemental’s hit points drop to 0.
The Elemental Spirit that is summoned by this ability is your Bonded Elemental, and its statistics are derived normally except for the following:
- If the highest spell slot you can cast is lower than 4th level, the elemental can only attack once.
- Subtract 10 hit points from the elemental’s hit point maximum for each spell level under 4th.
- The elemental’s size is small if the spell was cast as a 1st-3rd level spell, medium for 4th-6th level, and large above 7th level.
The elemental you summon with this ability is always your Bonded Elemental, and when its hit points fall to 0, it returns to its respective elemental plane. You can dismiss the elemental as a free action. If the elemental is dismissed or killed, you cannot summon it again until completing a long rest.
While your bonded elemental is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically.
Finally, when you cast a spell with a range of touch, your bonded elemental can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your bonded elemental must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, use your attack modifier for the roll.
You can only have one bonded elemental at a time.
Elemental Resistance
At 6th level, your body and soul's innate connection with the elemental planes begins to have a significant effect on your physiology, you gain resistance to the energy type of your element of study.
Air
You gain resistance to lightning damage.
Earth
You gain resistance to acid damage.
Fire
You gain resistance to fire damage.
Water
You gain resistance to cold damage.
Share Spells
Your soul's bond with your Bonded Elemental allows you to mirror spell effects you cast on yourself to it.
When you cast a spell targeting yourself, you can also affect your Bonded Elemental with the spell if it is within 30 feet of you.
Blood of the Elemental
At 10th level, your physiological bond with the elemental planes and your Bonded Elemental has developed further, permanently altering the blood in your veins. This development includes the benefits of your elemental's traits: immunity to poison and resistance to paralyzing effects.
You become immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition, and you gain advantage on saving throws to resist the paralyzed condition.
Body of the Elemental
At 14th level, your body's acclimation to its bond with the elemental planes has progressed to an advanced level, granting it the ability to reflexively become amorphous when grabbed or attacked.
You gain resistance to non-magical Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing attacks.
As a reaction, you may automatically remove the restrained, grappled, paralyzed, or petrified conditions from yourself. You must complete a short rest before using this ability again.
Form of the Elemental
At 14th level, your planar bond has reached its zenith, allowing you to take the form of that which you could previously only summon.
You may use your action to polymorph yourself into an Elemental Myrmidon of the plane you have chosen, following the rules of the Polymorph spell except as noted here: The spell effect does not require you to maintain concentration, doesn't require spell components to cast, and lasts for 1 hour or until you dismiss the effect. Once you have changed back to your normal form, you cannot use this ability again until you have completed a long rest.
Air
As an action, you may use your Elemental Transformation ability to polymorph yourself into an Air Elemental Myrmidon.
Earth
As an action, you may use your Elemental Transformation ability to polymorph yourself into an Earth Elemental Myrmidon.
Fire
As an action, you may use your Elemental Transformation ability to polymorph yourself into a Fire Elemental Myrmidon.
Water
As an action, you may use your Elemental Transformation ability to polymorph yourself into a Water Elemental Myrmidon.
