Monk
Base Class: Monk

"Martial Arts, like any art, is an unrestricted athletic expression of an individual soul." -Bruce Lee

"True strength is in the soul and spirit, not the muscles" -Alex Karras

Monks, known far and wide for their training, honing their bodies and minds into hardened instruments with which to defend their lives. The different paths a monk can take represent special training passed down from master to apprentice, or natural talent honed by practice into a unique style. The Way of the Dragon Soul is different though. Its strength lies not within the body of the practitioner, but instead comes from the uniqueness of their soul and their ability to use Ki to tap into their hidden power.

The Way of the Dragon Soul is a unique Monastic Tradition created buy the Dragon God himself. He gifts the power of this unique martial art to those dragons that he sees fit to punish for their greed reincarnating the dragons soul into a mortal body and forcing them to learn how hard life can be without power. He teaches these Dragon Souls this martial art so they can defend themselves after being reincarnated.

Claws of the Dragon Soul

3rd-level Way of the Dragon Soul feature

Your mastery of your ki allows you to summon a portion of your dragon soul. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to summon the claws of your dragon soul. When you do so, each creature within a 15 foot cone  must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d10 energy damage of a type associated with your Draconic Soul on a successful save a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases to 2d10 at 6th level, 3d10 at 11th, and 4d10 at 17th level.

For 10 minutes, the appearance of your forearms changes, either physically becoming draconic scaled claws or becoming wrapped in luminescent energy resembling claws. You determine the appearance, and they vanish early if you are incapacitated or die. While the claws are present, you gain the following benefits:

  • You can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Strength modifier when making Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
  • You may choose to have your unarmed strikes deal Bludgeoning or Slashing damage.
  • When you make an unarmed strike on your turn, your reach for it is 5 feet greater than normal.
  • The unarmed strikes you make with the arms can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls.

Dragon Soul

You have the soul of a Dragon, figuratively or literally depending where you choose to draw power from, you could possess a relic containing the captured soul of a powerful dragon, you could be a dragon reincarnated as a mortal being to pay penance for a crime, you could have a dragon ancestor who's spirit watches over and protects you. the choice is yours as to the nature of your Dragon Soul, but it is an important roleplay aspect of your character. Be sure to talk with your DM about the nature of your soul as it can have interesting storyline and history ramifications. When you gain this ability at 3rd level you choose a type of dragon that you wish your soul to emulate. The type you choose determines the type of energy damage that your abilities deal and that you eventually become resistant to while your soul is manifested.

Black/Copper - Acid

Blue/Bronze - Lightning

Drass/Gold/Red - Fire

Green - Poison

Silver/White - Cold

Amethyst - Force

Crystal - Radiant

Emerald - Psychic

Sapphire - Thunder

Topaz - Necrotic

This ability can only be used once per round
