The origin of the Trickshots is hidden in much mystery. Not because it's actually very mysterious, but well.... gnomes. If you've ever asked a rock gnome to explain anything, you would quickly understand, nothing. Regardless, their methods for once produced solid results that has now spread to other races. Goblins, humans, and of course gnomes are very common amongst this profession, but you will occasionally see an extra curious elf, halfling, or fey having entirely too much fun shooting exploding arrows. The discovery was initially based on gnomish firearms, however, due to unknown reasons that was extensively tested, it seems that the powder used to craft bullets tends to explode when certain magical elements are added to it. Therefore there are no Trickshots that wield firearms. One truly terrifying revelation was made during those experiments in that if the Trickshot also happens to be a wild mage of any sort, their arrows could trigger a wild surge. Gnomish ingenuity and wild magic seems to be a truly awful and bewildering concept best to be avoided.  

Imbue Ammunition

3rd level Trickshot Feature

You have the ability to imbue your crossbow bolts and arrows with spells that you know. 

  • You may only have as many imbued arrows as you have spells slots per day
  • You are only able to make 1 arrow per proficiency bonus per long rest
  • Spells origin takes place within range of where the arrow lands.
    • IE: Haste choose a willing creature within 30’ of where the arrow lands.
  • Touch spells can be delivered by arrow if you meet the targets AC – target takes arrows damage which means something like cure light wounds wouldn’t work well until later levels and heaven forbid if you crit your wounded friend!
  • As a bonus action any cantrip you can cast can be added to a standard arrow attack on the fly if it targets one creature and is not melee specific.
  • Imbued Spells with a target of Self, instead target the arrow. Spells like sword burst would go off from the location the arrow lands. Spells like detect magic would make it so the arrow could detect magic within 30 feet… not very useful.
  • Once the arrow strikes any target the spell goes off.
  • You have to maintain concentration on any concentration spells until 9 level.

In addition your bow or crossbow counts as your spellcasting focus and you are able to add your intelligence modifier to ranged attack rolls. 

You gain proficiency with Improvised Weapons, Javelins, all ranged weaponry, Expertise in Arcana and Tinkers tools and can speak, read, and write in gnomish as a result of your studies.

 

The Full Package

5th level Trickshot Feature

The Alley-Oops Shot.. wait no I curved it. 

You learn how to direct an errant arrow toward a new target. When you make an attack roll with a magic arrow and miss, you can use a reaction  to reroll the attack roll against a different target within 60 feet of the original target.

Extra Attack

You gain an extra attack. This does not stack with the extra attack feature of other classes. 

Eureka!

Your ranged weapon can now hold multiple infusions.

9th level Trickshot Feature

You have imbued so much magic into your bow that it now holds a semblance of sentience. Maybe its because you talk to it all the time... In either case, it is magically bound to you and as an action, the weapon can be summoned to you from anywhere in the universe regardless of what plane its on or being that holds it. Furthermore, the bow can now maintain concentration on spells fired from it. Lastly you have made an astounding discovery! You can now create imbued grenades that are very similar to your Imbued Ammunition! The only differences really are that they can only be thrown 30 feet before they grow too unstable and cease to function. Also, they can only hold touch spells but touch spells affect every creature in a 10' radius of where the grenade lands. 

 

The Ultimate Tool

15th level Trickshot Feature

Your bow becomes a Living Artifact with a personality that compliments your own. Its power and the abilities it grants you increase as your own power increases. It refuses to function for anyone else but can speak telepathically to anyone within 30’. The bow grants abilities based on the number of items you are attuned to.

  • 1 Item: Mirror image 1 x per prof bonus per long rest
  • 2 items: Permanent Freedom of movement spell active while you possess your bow.
  • 3 items: Permanent Nondetection spell active while you possess your bow.
  • 4 items: Can cast pass without trace once per int mod per long rest
  • 5 items : Extra Attack (3)
  • 6 items: The number of arrows you can retain or keep is no longer limited by your number of spell slots per day.

The number of imbued arrows/grenades you can create is still limited to your proficiency bonus per day.
