Monk
Base Class: Monk

Unlike other orders who seek to understand the connection between life and death, to master it, or to cause its destruction, the Way of Preservation teaches that death, however eventual, is inevitable for most. However, monks who follow the Preserver’s teachings are taught how to stretch that landmark of death to past the distant horizon, even to the point of achieving effective immortality.

Ancient Studies

Years of studying ancient tomes and lore has sharpened your mind. You gain proficiency with the History skill. If you already have proficiency in this skill, you gain expertise in it.

Lost Techniques

Starting at 3rd level, our research has yielded you secrets long since forgotten. You can choose the damage type of your Unarmed Strikes (Slashing, Piercing, Bludgeoning). You can choose the damage type after you’ve made the attack roll, but before you know if it hits. Your Unarmed Strikes gain a benefit depending on what damage type you choose:
Piercing
Your strikes are better at finding their way into the chinks in an enemy’s armour. Your Unarmed Strikes ignore 1 AC.
Slashing
You’ve learned how to disarm your foes with ease. If your target is holding an item in one hand, you can use an action or replace one Attack to attempt to disarm your target. They must make a Strength Saving Throw (or Dexterity, if they are holding a Finesse weapon) against your Ki Save DC. On a success, they are disarmed, and their weapon falls at their feet. You cannot use this against a target more than 2 sizes larger than yourself.
Bludgeoning
Battering your opponents comes naturally. If the last attack you made on your turn successfully dealt bludgeoning damage, before your next turn if you’re hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to make an Unarmed Strike against a creature within range. This Unarmed Strike must deal bludgeoning damage.

Internal Preservation

Starting at 6th level, you can expend 3 Ki Points as a bonus action to regenerate health for 1 minute. At the start of each of your turns while regenerating, if you have less than half your maximum Hit Points remaining but at least 1, you regain Hit Points equal to 1 roll of your Martial Arts die plus your Wisdom modifier (min. 1).

Funerary Rites

Starting at 11th level, you can touch a body that has been dead for no more than an hour as an action. That body is protected from decay for 1d4+your Wisdom modifier days and cannot be turned into Undead for the same amount of time.

Eternal Spirit

Starting at 17th level, you can no longer die of old age. In addition, your Wisdom score increases by 2 (max. 22).
