Bard
Base Class: Bard

A tragic hero who goes to great lengths to circumvent fate. He rallies his allies even as he pushes through his own suffering. A conflicted and masterful performer, this college is for those who have a deep understanding of life's lessons, whether that be loss, pride, love, or destiny.

The bards of this college can arouse deep sympathy within all who come across them. They gain favour as easily as the pity of open-hearted acquaintances. Their words are known to be eloquent and deeply emotional, often unsettlingly so. Villainous bards of this college are known to be explosive in their downfall, seeking to drag as many others as possible into their own suffering. Heroic bards of this college instead use this power to persuade kings and queens to come to the aid of the downtrodden, and talk villains down from their own tragic circumstances. Often bards of this type come from dark and tumultuous pasts or are prone to great suffering. In return, they have a greater understanding of the human condition.

Hamartia

When you join the College of Tragedy at 3rd level, you have mastered the ability to learn and exploit the fatal flaws of your foes. You gain the ability to expend a use of your bardic inspiration to subtract the number rolled from a creature’s attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Additionally, you gain advantage on all insight checks.

Tragic Soliloquy

Beginning at 3rd level, you can use your action to lament your misery. Any attackers who can see or hear your soliloquy must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, they are overwhelmed with sympathy and must direct their attack to someone else or choose not to attack. This effect lasts until the end of your next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma Modifier.

Reversal of Fortunes

Beginning at 6th level, whenever an ally within 30 feet of you is reduced to 0 hp, you may use your reaction cry out in agony. Your cries beg fate to bend to your will. When you use this ability you can take damage equal to your Charisma modifier plus your Bard level, and in turn your ally will heal half that amount.
If this damage reduces you to 0 hp, double the amount healed to your ally.
Once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Dying Breath

Starting at 14th level, you can now use your dying moments to dramatically inspire allies who see your downfall. Whenever you are attacked and take damage, you may use your reaction to grant one ally, who can hear you, the following benefits:

  • An attack roll is a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
  • The creature may add your Charisma modifier to their attack rolls.
  • The creature may add your Charisma modifier to the total damage they deal from weapon attacks.
  • The creature may add your Charisma modifier to their Saving Throws.

This creature retains these benefits until the end of their next turn. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier.
