Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards are known for following traditions and practicing centuries-old arts and craft. Bards of the College of Dissonance however, like to break every rule they are faced with, and enjoy creating a path uniquely fit for themselves. They are great inventors and creatives and can combine magic, mechanics, and music to alter their musical instruments, creating never before heard songs and sounds, enthralling and/or perturbing everyone that hears them.

These bards like to perform in front of great audiences, in order to showcase their creations to the people and improve upon them. They might travel alone, offering concerts in taverns or simply disrupting a town plaza, though they can often be seen traveling in packs, creating a band that makes music together.

Bardic Malice

When you join the College of Creation at 3rd level, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to distract others. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 30 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Malice die, a d4.

Once within the next 10 minutes, as a reaction, you can force the creature to roll the die and subtract the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes as long as it remains within 30 feet of you. Once the Bardic Malice die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Malice die at a time.

Your Bardic Malice die changes when you reach certain levels in this class. The die becomes a d6 at 7th level and a d8 at 11th level.

Dissonant Distortions

At 3rd level, you learn to distort your musical instrument used as a spellcasting focus with certain magical effects, turning it into a magic item which requires attunement.

Distortions Known

When you gain this feature, pick one Sound Distortion and two Magical Distortions to learn from the Dissonant Distortions table. You learn one additional Magical Distortion when you reach 5th, 10th and 15th level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one distortion you learned with a new one.

Distorting your Spellcasting Focus

After you gain a level in this class, you can touch a musical instrument and imbue it with your known Dissonant Distortions, turning it into a magic item during a long rest, attuning yourself to it the instant you distort it. If you decide to attune to the item later, you must do so using the normal process for attunement (see the attunement rules in the Dungeon Master's Guide).

Your distortion remains in an item indefinitely, but when you die, the infusion vanishes after a number of days equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 day).

Dissonant Distortions table

Dissonant distortions are extraordinary processes that rapidly turn a musical instrument into a magic item. The description of each of the following distortions details the effects they grant the instrument.

Some distortions specify a minimum bard level. You can't learn such a distortion until you are at least that level.
