Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Feral Spirit have a strong connection to nature and animals. Unlike many other monks, they don’t train and study in monasteries, they rather train in isolation, protecting forests, jungles, mountains, deserts, and such. It’s not uncommon for these monks to travel around with a druid circle, since their principles overlap so strongly, and historically many of these monks have learned to harness and shape their spirit’s power from watching a druid’s intense connection with the world.

Bestial Spirit

At 3rd level, you can shape your spirit to take on a beast’s form and physically surround yourself with it.

When you choose this monastic tradition at 3rd level, you select three beasts following the monk level limitations shown in the Bestial Spirits table. As an action, you can surround yourself with one of these beast’s appearance as incorporeal energy.

This feature lasts for 1 minute unless you spend 1 ki point to maintain it for 10 minutes or 2 ki points to maintain it for an hour. The effect ends early if you cast a concentration spell, fall unconscious or choose to end it as a bonus action. You can use this feature 2 times and regain expended uses after a long rest.

When you use this feature, the following rules apply:

  • You gain access to the beast’s armor class, speeds, statistics, and saving throw proficiencies, but you individually choose whether to use them or keep your own.
  • You add the beast’s traits and actions to your own and use whatever modifiers are specified in its stat block.
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to half of the beast’s hit points rounded up. If you lose these hit points, you don’t lose your Bestial Spirit.
  • Your size becomes the same as the beast’s.

You choose two additional beasts you can transform into at level 6th level and again at 11th and 17th level.

Animal Connection

At 6th level you can momentarily call upon your bestial spirit’s abilities without fully unleashing their form. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. When you use it, you choose one of the two following options:

  • You can mentally link yourself to your selected beasts. As an action, you choose one of your Bestial Spirits and you can add its skill proficiencies and senses to your own for the next 10 minutes or until you drop unconscious or choose to end it as a bonus action. While this option is active, spiritual energy pours out of your eyes, a spiritual crown is placed upon your heads, a spiritual symbol is branded on your forehead, or a different effect of your choice is visible.
  • When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can use one of your Bestial Spirits’ attacks instead of unarmed monk strikes by enveloping the corresponding body part in the animal’s shape.

Spiritual Resilience

Starting at 11th level, whenever you use your Bestial Spirit feature you gain the creature’s full hit points as temporary hit points as well as resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage.

Empowered Beast

Starting at 17th level, whenever you use your Bestial Spirit feature and use the attack action, you can attack three times instead of two as long as one of them is from the beast’s attacks.

Additionally, whenever you attack with one of the beast’s options, you can add one roll of your Martial Arts die to its damage.
