Base Class: Monk
A Mana Blocker has both respect and fear for those who sling spells. Those creatures who bend the world to their own whims must bend the knee to the residents of the world they influence. These monks manipulate the Weave using the wellspring of life energy-ki-within their own bodies. Trained with and against wizards and clerics, these uncommon martial combatants either despise or respect mages and their power.
Mana Blocker Initiate
At 3rd level, your time training as an anti-mage has provided you with a plethora of skills suited to combatting those proficient in arcane, divine, and eldritch magics. These skills are tailored to disable and dismantle a spellcaster for ease of questioning or negation of threat.
- Anmagus Strike-You may substitute an attack, one of your Flurry of Blows, or an opportunity attack for this ability. Impose disadvantage on a target's next Ranged or Melee attack: 2 ki points
- Spirit Pulse-Spend a number of ki points equal to the number of creatures you choose within 30 feet of you as a reaction, giving those creatures advantage on the imposed saving throw.
- Deflect Magic-As a reaction, you may defend yourself against magic more easily. When you are targeted by a damaging spell, you may spend 2 ki points. Roll your Martial Arts die a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier (rounded up) plus half your monk level (rounded up). You may reduce the damage of the spell by an amount equal to the number. If the spell's damage is reduced to 0, you negate the spell's effect on yourself. If the negated spell is single-target, you may spend an additional ki point to reflect the attack at any creature within the range of the original spell, using yourself as the new origin of that spell. If the spell has an area-of-effect, you may spend 2 additional ki points to reduce the damage taken by others in its path by half. This reflected spell uses the caster's spell save DC or spell attack modifier. If it is a concentration spell, the Mana Blocker may hold concentration on it.
Magus Knowledge
You have been trained to understand Arcana so that you may have an easier time disabling spellcasters and any machinations they may put forth. You understand the origin of their power are their spellbooks. Before confronting a mage, it may be wise to steal and burn their spellbook. At 3rd level, gain proficiency in Arcana and Sleight of Hand if you were not already. Choose one to gain expertise in.
Spirit Shear
At 6th level, you understand that the manipulation of the Weave is at the center of all spells. Acting upon this, you learn to temporarily cut spellcasters away from it using your bodily energy. At 6th level, you learn how to use your ki to overwhelm a target's magic. Gain the ability to cast Counterspell or Dispel Magic using 3 ki points. These spells are cast at their 3rd level. You may raise the level of these spells using 1 ki point to raise them to 4th level, and an additional 2 ki points for every level beyond 4th. Choose Wisdom or Intelligence as your spellcasting modifier.
Mana Blocker Adept
Starting at 6th level, you are now more experienced in the art of manipulating magic with ki. Your previous abilities have been enhanced as a product of that growth.
Empowered Spirit-Your ability to overwhelm other’s ki becomes stronger. Manipulating your own ki around the magic of others becomes easier. Your Anmagus Strike ability now imposes disadvantage on all melee or ranged attacks until the end of their next turn.
Manipulate Mana- When you strike a creature, you can force them to make a Constitution saving throw against your Monk save DC. You may choose an effect, expending three ki points. You may choose one of the following effects. Both of these effects last until the end of their next turn. You may only affect one creature at a time with this ability.
- Prevent the creature from upcasting spells (ie. Counterspell only at 3 level)
- Prevent the creature from using their highest level of magic (A 7 level caster is unable to access 4 level spell slots; A 9th level warlock can only use 4th level spell slots.)
Arcane Evasion
At 11th level, you have mastered defensive use of ki against magic. When you are forced to make a saving throw that is magical in origin, you may spend 4 ki points to automatically succeed on that save, provided you know and can see the origin of the effect.
Mana Blocker Master
At 17th level, you have become a master of manipulating the weave to suit your purposes. As such, you enter a realm hither to undreamt of. You may spend an action to step into the weave itself, entering an enlightened state. You exist within pure magic for 10 minutes. While in this state, you gain the following benefits:
Arcane Aura: Your Armor Class increases by 2. You gain +2 to all Saving Throw Modifiers.
Snatch Spell: When another creature within 30 feet of you is concentrating on a spell, you may force them to make a Wisdom saving throw. If they fail, you snatch the spell, effectively controlling the spell for the remainder of its duration. They may not end this spell by their own will, and it uses their concentration. However, this spell can still be ended when they take damage. When you snatch this spell, you may choose who the spell now affects, rather than the targets that the caster originally chose.
Ethereal Step: As a bonus action, you may cast Blink or Misty Step. You can step through objects or creatures as if they were not there. If you end your turn inside an object or another creature, you are ejected into the closest, empty 5-foot square and you take 6d8 force damage.
This ability refreshes on a Long Rest, or when you use 6 ki points to enter it again.
