Base Class: Wizard
PotionsA wizard who dedicates themself to the School of Potions has pursued the secrets of alchemy. While many a village has an apothecary grinding odd herbs and roots into potent (or not so potent) concoctions, the careful process of mixing and brewing is just one way to achieve results. Through the use of the intricate secrets of the craft and direct infusions using magical rituals, a wizard can come up with explosive results in the blink of an eye... sometimes literally.
Perhaps you are a scholar who has delved into the knowledge the world has to offer or an explorer that has unlocked the secrets of the wilderness. Your knowledge could
come from being friends of the fey or from unfettered access to the royal library. As such, Potions Wizards can be good or evil, lawful or chaotic.
Alchemical Savant
Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with alchemist's supplies. The gold and time you must spend to brew a potion is halved.
- For 12 gp and 1 day of work, you can make a potion of Climbing, Comprehension, Healing, or Watchful Rest.
- For 50gp and 1 workweek, you can make a potion of Advantage, Animal Friendship, Fire Breath, Hill Giant Strength, Growth, Greater Healing, Poison, Resistance, or Waterbreathing.
- For 500gp and 5 work weeks, you can make a potion of Aqueous Form, Clairvoyance, Diminution, Gaseous Form, Frost Giant Strength, Stone Giant Strength, Superior Healing, Heroism, Invulnerability, Maximum Power, Mind Control (beast), or Mind Reading.
- For 5,000gp and 12 workweeks, you can make a potion of Flying, Cloud Giant Strength, Supreme Healing, Invisibility, Longevity, Mind Control (humanoid), Possibility, Speed, or Vitality.
- For 25,000gp and 25 workweeks, you can make a potion of Dragon's Majesty, Giant-Size, or Storm Giant Strength.
Imbued Potion
- Starting at 2nd level, you can weave magic into a potion that you brew. During a long rest, you can prepare a number of potions equal to your Intelligence modifier. To do so, you cast a spell and imbue it into the potion, spending the appropriate spell slots and material components and making a Dexterity (Arcana) check equal to 10+ the spell's level (11 for cantrips). If the check fails, the imbued potion is still made, but is volatile. A volatile potion, instead of casting a spell, deals 1d12 fire damage when used. The damage a volatile spell causes increases at level 6 to 2d12 fire damage, at level 10 to 3d12 fire damage, and at level 14 to 4d12 fire damage.
- Imbued potions last until you complete a long rest, after which, they become useless. An imbued potion can be cast in a number of ways:
- Drinking an Imbued potion: An imbued potion drank is cast with its sole target being the drinker. The spell does not require an attack roll or a saving throw be made for it to take effect. If the imbued potion has a spell that affects an area, rather than a single target, the effect only targets the drinker. If the spell has a prolonged effect, the drinker can make a constitution saving throw with a DC equal to your spell save DC at the start of their turn to end the effects of the spell.
- Throwing an Imbued potion: An imbued potion can be thrown with a ranged improvised weapon attack. Whether the attack is successful or not, the vial shatters and the spell is cast. If the imbued potion has a spell that affects an area, rather than a single target, you may ignore the attack roll and throw it up to a range 60 feet.
Expert Alchemist
At 6th level, you gain expertise in the arcana skill and with alchemy supplies. You can also choose to fail an arcana check and purposefully create a volatile imbued potion.
Empowering Concoctions
Starting at 10th level, whenever you or an Ally imbibe a potion you've made (imbued or otherwise), the drinker gains 1d8+ your intelligence modifier temporary hit points and can add your Intelligence modifier to one attack roll, skill check, or saving throw within the next hour.
MAXIMUM POWER POTIONS
Starting at 14th level, all of your imbued potions behave as if they were made with a spell slot one level higher than that of which with they were actually made. Furthermore, spells cast from imbued potions that require concentration last for their maximum time allotment.
