Base Class: Bard
A Bard who studies under The College of The Dreamwalker is an astute student of Oneiromancy; Magical Oracles who are able to have prophetic visions while sleeping and have expanded influence over their consciousness. They are experts at the art of self care, meditation and deep sleep. A Bardic Dreamwalker can fall asleep in an instant. They have a perfect internal clock down to the exact second they want to be asleep, and they cannot be woken up unless they choose to be woken. While dreaming, the Bard has powerful visions of things that may happen the following day and are able to use their knowledge and force of will to alter these events with their Bardic Inspiration. Some Dreamers can go into an ascendant state of consciousness known as "Dreamwalking'' while sleeping. While Dreamwalking, the Bard is able to manifest their consciousness outside their body and they are able to mold it into looking like other people, beasts, and even objects. Some may use their Dreamwalker skills for espionage, some may use it for trickery, some may use it to watch over their allies or family, and some may use it to simply catch up on their studies or their favorite book. The usefulness of The Dreamwalk comes down to the imagination of the Bard. Masters of The Dreamwalk have ceaseless control over their mind and body during unconsciousness. The most powerful Dreamwalkers can telepathically control their sleeping bodies to great effect. They can use their divination magic while they sleep. They are even able to activate or even maintain The Dreamwalk even while they're unconscious and dying. Using their skills to great effect to finish off their foes or even heal themselves and their allies. At the DMs discretion, Dreamwalking could have consequences. For every Dreamwalker wantonly leaving their body, there is a bodiless being such as a ghost or other similar/malevolent beings that would happily have yours.
Dreamwalkers are free to use their craft in any way that they see fit. Many use it as travelling Oracles for hire... Who travel from place to place and charge others for their divination services. Some work as Viziers who whisper in the ears of Lords, and Even Kings or Queens. Others use their gifts to higher themselves to Occult Royalty status, a powerful diviner could be a good friend to have in all walks of life. A great majority find themselves in adventurer's roles who can use their gifts for the betterment of the world. Or not. The options are plentiful and the path is great. But only you can dream up your fate.
Prophetic Repose
Starting at 3rd level, you are a master of sleep and its restorative properties. Upon completing a Long Rest, you regain all hit dice spent during the day.
In addition you:
- Can fall asleep At Will.
- Have a perfect internal clock.
- Cannot be woken up unless you choose to be.
Also at 3rd level, the subjects of your dreams have granted you some insight of the events to come within the next 24 hours. Upon completing a Long Rest, you may roll any number of your Bardic Inspiration dice and save the results individually. As a reaction, you may choose any creature within 60 feet of you and spend one of your Preordained Outcomes to benefit or hinder an Attack Roll, Ability Check or Saving Throw. Whether your dice benefits or hinders a roll is based upon whether or not the dice roll is an Even or Odd number. Even numbers are added to the chosen dice roll, and odd numbers are subtracted from the chosen dice roll.
These Preordained Outcomes reset upon a long rest.
At 6th level, your Preordained Outcomes are not swayed by whether you roll an Even or Odd number. You may choose whether any or all of these rolls benefit or hinder a roll.
Dreamwalker
At 6th level, while dreaming you can manifest your consciousness in a multitude of ways. As an action, you can dream yourself into a semi-corporeal, weightless, and visibly illusory form of your choosing. The body you leave behind is unconscious and in a state of unawakenable sleep.
Your Dreamwalker’s form can be that of any humanoid, beast, or object no larger than your size. All of your statistics, and features stay the same. Any damage or other effects that apply to your Dreamwalker's Form or physical body affects the other. Your consciousness can remain outside of your body within an amount of feet equal to 10x your Bard levels. In order for your consciousness to return to your body, you must physically merge with it and end the Dreamwalk.
While projecting your consciousness, you gain the following benefits:
- Your consciousness and body gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
- You have a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. You can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain, but you take 1d10 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object.
- You can cast spells provided you have the necessary components on your body. The components that would be consumed are consumed magically.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
If you exit the range of your body OR if your body leaves your Dreamwalker's range for any reason or for any amount of time, there may be consequences subject to your DMs discretion. Some consequences could include but are not limited to:
- Your Dreamwalk ends, your consciousness is violently whiplashed back to your body leaving you stunned for 1 minute.
- You are blind beyond that range, leaving only the echoes of your heartbeat to guide you back to yourself.
- Your body becomes extremely susceptible to beings that wish to possess it, and you automatically fail any saving throws against possession.
Ceaseless Mind and Body
At 14th level, when you go into the Dreamwalk, you can telepathically control your sleeping body. Your body has a movement speed and an action that can be used to make an Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Hide. You can also use an action to make an object interaction such as, opening a door, quaffing a potion, holding a torch or some other basic function. Alternatively you can use your body’s action to roll one hit dice and heal that amount. You cannot perceive through your sleeping body. Only your Dreamwalk form can cast spells. Your body moves on your initiative.
In addition, you can activate and/or maintain your Dreamwalk in the most dire of times. Upon dropping to 0 hit points and going unconscious, you can use a reaction to activate the Dreamwalk. If you're already Dreamwalking when you drop to 0 hitpoint, you can also maintain your Dreamwalk until you die, potentially continuing action in your last moments or healing yourself. You still make death saving throws for every turn you have 0 hit points.
Lastly, you know the following spells, that don't count against your spells known(if you already know any of these spells, you can choose another appropriate spell from the Bard Spell List.):
Arcane Eye, Clairvoyance, Dream, Legend Lore , Locate Animals or Plants, Locate Person, Locate Object, Sending, and Scrying.
You may cast these spells as part of a short or long rest, and require no spell casting components to do so. Spells cast this way that have a duration that lasts longer than your rest, end when your rest does.
